WELLINGTON.

March 29, 1890. The letter which arrived by the R.M.S. Kaikoura on Monday last. the 24th inst.. addressed to Mr.O'Dea, Secretary of the Irish National League, Wellington Branch, a copy of which is enclosed herewith, will be read with especial pleasure by those friends and sympathisers who aided the good work of the Irish delegates, John Dillon, Sir Thomas Esmonde, and John Deasy, in their late mission to Australia and New Zealand. Convincing proof is here given, if any proof were necessary, that the Irish people are not ungrateful for the efforts and sacrifices made in their behalf by their friends and countrymen across the «eas. It is as follows :—: —

"43 OConntll street Upper, Dublin, 30th January, 1890. 15 Rutland square. Dear Kirs, — I beg to acknowledge most gratefully receipt of your draft for £625, contained in your letter of 12th December, the splendid contribution of Wellington and surrounding districts *o the Special Evicted Tenants' Fund. I can assure you and your committee that we did not rtquire your kind letter to remind us of all that the Wellington Branch of the League has done to forward the Home Rule cause. We are well aware that it has always been well to the front in good work, and we are deeply sensible of the eff jrts and sacrifices you have always been making in the Wellington district to forward what vu and we believe and know to be the cause of truth and justice. We looked, therefore, with confidence to you for help at the present crisis, and the truly noble response you have made to the appeal from our delegates has amply justified that confidence. The We^t Coast has not failed U?, and has done its part nobly now as in the pas'". The list of subscribers you have so kindly sent me hhows how tide the expatriated Irish are to the old land, but it also shows that our caiue has rvcw many frinnda in New Zealand not of our own blood, I beg to enclose leceipt, and again thanking \ ou most sinceiely, I remain, dear sirs, yours truly, J.
