DOMINICAN CONVENT SCHOOLS, DUNEDIN.

A{very interesting entertainment was given on Tuesday evening in St. Joseph's schoolroom, Dunedin, by the young ladiee cf the Dominican Nuns' schools as a celebration of the feast day of the Ber. Mother Prioress. The play " Marie Antoinetta " was acted in a very creditable manner, all the characters being well sustained. The play embraced the more notable events of the life of Lotus XVI, and his ill-fated Queen — from the transaction connected with the diamond necklace to the bitter end. The young ladies who took the diff rant parts, acted with great intelligence, their elocution in many passages bein,' admirable. The scenes were intermingled with tableau* vivants showing seveial of the great historical situations, and in those especially representing tbe partit.g of the Queen with her children, and hh r appearance on the scaffold, the young lady who took the role evinced a good deal of tragic power. Tho scenes in question were extremely touching. Tbe dresses and eceoery were remarkably good, and everything combined to ensure a thorough success. ' ; A Silent Woman •' was given as an afterpiece, the performai.ee being spirited and well carried|through. The audience testified heartily to the amusement felt by them, The stage and its surround' ings had been much improved for the occasion. The proscenium especially has been renewed, Mr F. W. Petre having undertaken the taik, and performed it in a very workmanlike manner. Both the design and execution are excellent, and do infinite credit to the talent of the artificer, both as scenic artist and mechanic. Mr R. A. Dunne acted as master of the ceremonies, and contributed much to the comfort of the audience. There was a crowded and appreciative audience.
