Padre Francesco Denza, the distinguished astronomer who ii in charge of the new Vatican observatory, has been appointed a mem* ber of the permanent International Commission for preparing s> general map of the heavens. Straws (says Truth) show which way the wind blows, and the following straw giv< s an unusually strong indication of ths way the wind is at present blowing in Ireland. It is something entirely new in Hibernian history to find an Irishman, who has hitherto posed as an Englishman ostentatiously resuming his nationality :— I, James Baton Fer all, hereby give notice, that 1 am about to resume the old family name of o'Ferrall, and that in the future I shall be known and shall sign my name in all legal and other documents as follows : — Janus Baton O'Ferrall. Longsdon-house, Oundle, Nortbants, Oct. 29, 1889. Perhaps the molt surprising thing about this advertissmentis that it should have appeared in the Time*. When one comes to think of it, tbe Times is really lending itself in this instance to a demonstration of nationalism which may have ths most dangerous consequences. The gentleman who directs the boycotting in the advertisement department at Printing House-square must have gone to Bleep.
