DOMINICAN CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL DUNEDIN.

The annual distribution of prizes took place ia this school on Friday forenoon. It was made by the Most Rev. Dr. Moran, in St. Joseph's schoolroom which had been appropriately adorned for the occasion I here were also present the Very Rev. Father O'Leary and the Rev Fathers Lynch, Vereker, O'Donnell, O'Neil, and McMullin, as well as several relations and friends of the pupils. The distribution to each class was preceded by a musical performance, vocal or insirumental, in which the pupils of the nuns showed themselves as usual most emcient, the concluding ceremony being the crowning of the young lady awarded by the votes of her schoolmates the Bishop's prize for amiability -who was this year Miss Mary Knott. The ttisnop then addressed a few words to the girls. He said he had to congratulate them on the success of their examination. He had himeelt taken part in the eliminations, particularly in those of the higher branches, aud found tbeauswering entirely satisfactory. With regard to other things, toe mmicnow performed, and the work shown by the girlsat the Exmbitionaffordtd ample proofs of how well they used their time, and profited by tne instruction received by them. The Lady Superior said the examination* had given her great satisfaction, and there was not a single complaint to be made of any of the pupils Tlu was very consoling, and if any reward were sought for by tboee who bad tbe care of them this w.uld in itself reward them amply. Tae mo»t rev. Bpeaker then announced that vacaiion would commence to-day and would terminate on Febiuary 8 (applause) So long a vacation was given for two reasons : First they had had very little vacaiion during the winier holiday*, and secondly, they bad worked so hard iv preparing for the Exhibition. Tois bad demanded additional labour irom them, and they were therefore entitled to an additional holiday, tie noped they would enjoy themselves thoroughly and would acquire aa increased stock ot health t.o as io begin the new sessioa with rsnewed vigour. Tne speaker, however, would remind them that recreation was not ditwpation. Let them not yield to any excess, but observe the golden rale of moderation.
