AN EXHORTATION.
TO THE EDITOE N.Z. TABLET. Sib, — It is now about a year ago since the great sensation of Pamellism and Crime appeared before the world, when the leader of the Irish party was to appear before a tribunal of justice in the courts of London, save the mark. We are all aware of the miserable fiasco in which it ended, and the amount of costs it b«s been to the Iris'u leader and his party, and we also know that a vast amount of money has been collected all over the world, in Australia and New Zealand. And yet, alas there are districts who have not done their duty towards their great leader and their country. Being a constant reader of yoar valuable journal, I have noticed the different districts throughout New Zealand who have contributed to the Parnell Defence Fund, and I find in the great and wealth-flowing district ol North Canterbury only one solitary Irishman who ha* sent his subscription to the fund. I have of t en wondered if th? spirit of Irish nationality and love of freedom has died out among tbr: Irish men of N. 0., or is it that they have been asleep to their duty ? If sj, arise from your slumbers and do not str'ne as a mark to be pointed at for not having done your duty in assisting your great leader in vindicating yoar cause, and the cause of your country. — I am, etc,. AN IBISHMAN. Cbristchurch, Oct. 21, 1889.
