ART-UNION IN AID OF THE NEW PLYMOUTH CHURCH BUILDING FUND.
(Tara?iaki Nina, August 3 ) At the Alexandra Hall on Thursday evening there was a large attendance, when a miscellaneous enteitainment was given in connection with the drawing of prizes in the Catholic Church Building Fund Art-Union. The Taranaki Rifles Band (under Mr. Qeo. Garry) was present, and performed some operatic reactions (thf most noticeable being those from " Les Cloches/' •' Patience," and" II Trovatore)." Mrs Malone gave some pxcllent performances oc the piano, and was loudly encored. Mr. Higtiam, in his violin solo, was also encored, as was Mr. Lucheumair for his performances on the zither. Messrs. Higham and Lucbeumair also played several duets, which were well received. The balloting for the most popular old gentleman, old lady, young gentleman, and young lady, caused some amusement. The prizes went asunder :—Old gentleman, Mr. J. Hart ; old lady, Mrs Francis ; young gentleman, Mr. H. Cottier ; young lady, Mrs W. D. Francis. In the contest for the young gentleman's "prize Father Cassidy came out on top, bat waived his right for the next highest on theli't.
