ST. MARY'S PARISH, CHRISTCHURCH.
The Lev. Father Le Manant des Chesnais appeals by advertisement in another column to his numerous friends, and all those who are ever ready to assist in the honour and glory of God, for contributions towards the erection of a church in the parish recently formed in the North of Chrißtchurcb, and named after our BJessed Lady. The present temporary place of worship is far too em ill ; the new church is urgently required, and the devote.! pries s are using every eff)rt to collect the necessary funds for the purpose, but owing to the numerous calls rpcently made on the Catholics of Christchurch, and the depression in trade generally, it is found necessary to appeal to the charity of all to assist iv this very nf cassary and laud ible work. As the Rev. Father is well and favourably known (having worked hard and zealously in the interest, of religion in many parts of Ne.v Zealand) we feel sure liis appeal will not be ia vain. The Key. Father has for his curate, the mucii -esteemed Father Marnane, and the following: as a building committee. — Messrs. W. B. Pcrcsval, H. Lougbnan, M. Nolan, P. Barrett, W. White, P. Howard, Hoban, Symth, Polarwski, H,iu»hey, O'Neil. Slattery, ami G. J. Sellars (hon. secretary). Tbe building is to cost £2,300, and is estnmtad to hold 800 people. Mr. Duval, of. Timuu, is the arcitect. The committee have decided, with the concurrence of his Lordship Bishop Grimes, not to commence opciations until at least two-tbirds of the amount is in band.
