Messrs. Lonargan and Lonargan, preparatory to opening the fine new premises being erected at the corner of Cashel and Colombo streets, Christcburcb, and recently leased by them, are now holding a clearing sale at their establishment in Cashel street. Arrangements have been made to suit the convenience of purchasers, and ihe public will find it greatly to their advantage to avail themselves of the opportunity thus afforded them.

So great has been the success of Padre Agostino'a Lenten sermons in Borne, that even the Liberal Fanfulla, infected by the general enthusiasm, has opened its columns for subscriptions for the orphanage at Pisa which is the Padre's work of predilection. Others among the anti-clericals have been roused to a pitch of excitement, displaying itself in the perpetration of two outrages. The victim of the first was Padre Bernardino da Porto-Gruaro, General of the Franciscans, who, on leaving his convent, where Padre Agostino is staying, had a vessel of filthy water emptied over him. The miscreant, who evidently mistook Padre Bernardino for his illustrious visitor, was indistinguishable amidst a band of accomplices who surrounded the Franciscan General and mockingly inquired how he came to leave his convent in such a condition. The next day as Padre Agosiiao was driving in a closed vehicle to San Carl ), a large s i one was thrown into the carriage, breaking the glass and bruising the hand of the venerable old prie t. In his sermon the Padre alluded to the incident and said be forgave his assailants, adding that he shoul 1 be profoundedly giieved if th>y were workmen, as he had ever advocated the cause of the working clasß ; if, however, they were members of any other class, he did not regret it the less, for they exposed ibemst-lvea to having anaved against themselves that hate and impiety of which they set such sad examples. Of course the police have uot been able to discover the culprits. — Weekly Reguter,
