The loss to the country from the bad harvest of this year is indicated in the statistics just issued from the Privy Council Office. These show that while 250,000 acres more in Great Bntaiu were devo'ed to wheat-growiug than in 1887, the yield is less by nearly 2,500.000 bushels. Not only is this the case, representing a direct lo6j of about half a million pounds sterling, but there is a large proportion of light corn, and the crop is ug a rule inferior in quality. Barley shows a rather better yield than last year both in total ana acreage, and oats ajslight decrease in each of these respects.— Pall Mill (jfapcttG.
