CAPTAIN O'SHEA'S EVIDENCE.

Sir William Harcourt his seat the following reply to a correspondent who had drawn bis attention to Captain O'Shei's evidence before the P.traell Commission : —

Dear Sir, — It would not be fitting at the present eta?e of the inquiry that I should euteron a detailel refutation of the statements made by Captain O Sbea in his evidence as to his alleged communications with me relating to the Kilmaiuham trans ictions. When the proper time arrives (which I fear may be at a distant period) I shall fed it necessary (<ts Mr. Forster did in 1882) to contradict Captain O'Shea's statements in material particulars, some of them, indeed, being pure fiction. — Youis iruly,

W. V. Harcotjrt.

Mai wood, Lynd hurst, November 2, 1888.

At a meeting of the Limerick National League. Mr. O'Keeffe, M.P., Mayor, presiding, a heated discussion ensued with reference to the evidence ?iven by Captain O'Shea totne Parnell Commission, and to the fact that he was a Limerick citizen. The Mayor said everyone in the city regretted that the Captain should become a Crown witness. The vice-president (Mr. Henry O'Shea), said that Captain O'Shea was willing to do what injury he could to the Irish National cauee. The city nigh theriff (Mr. Stephen O'Mara), said, unfortunately, Captain O'Shea was born in Limerick, his father having filled the office now occupied by the Mayor. Captain O'Shea, with the mgeoaity of a bad mind, endeavoured to do injury to the National cause and tue League, and the conduct of a man so acquainted as he was wi:h Mr. Parnell to offer himself as a witness was that of a dastard, cowaid, and cur. He was a disgrace to Limerick, and O'Sbea's name would be handed down to posterity coupled with the id fumy associated with that of Corydon and o.her Irii-h informers.
