Mbbsbb Samuel Orb and Co., Stafford street, report for the week endi; g October 17, as follows :—: —

Wh.:at. — Tnr market during the week has been as quiet as the one previous, even ih ugh prices at Home are goiDg up, and likely to continue so fr m all account'-. Millers bave been laying in socks preny lively — at lo^t, befoie the advance, and are consequently not inclined, so I ng as they h ye sufficient io work npon, to give higher ratee. Piime w. e*t in good stock, and holders, who are few, will be alwajs able to command good values— say, 3.- 9d to 8s lOd ; mtdium, 3a 3d to 3s 7d ; inferior and fowl feed, 2s 6d to 3* with lit tie demand.

Oats. — Few offering, and arnva a limited. Notwithstanding the quietness of the market, prices have bean maintained, and daring the week we sold prime milliDg oats at np to 2s 3d ; medium to good stout feed, 2s to 2s 2d ; inferior and off-colour, Is 8d to Is lid.

Barley.— Prime malting up to 4s ; feed and milling, nominal. Chaff. — Owing to windy weather, prices advanced to £3 10s, but our quotations now are— £3 7s 6d for tip-top oaten sheaf ; ordinary, £2 15s to £3 2s 6d. i^^Seeds.— Ryegrass : Demand not so brisk as last week ; tendency is for clean, heavy, machine-dressed, while farmers' samples are being neglected. Poverty Bay is being sold at up to 4s 6d for dressed ; 3s 6d to 4s undressed. — Cocksfoot and Timothy : The demand shows signs of falling-off, and it may now be said that the bulk of our spring sowing is over ; prices, nevertheless remain firm, as do clover.

Mebshs. Arthur McDonald and Co., auctioneers, report for the week ending October 17 as follows :—: —

As inamated last week, we bave secured the la r ge stores recently occupied by the Mutual Agency < 0., anl immediately opposite our old premises in Bond street, so that v*e are low in possession of one of tbe largest wool warehouses in this city, and which is being thoroughly renovated for the reception of the increasing clips. Wool. — Cablegrams to hand report the closing of ihe fourth series of Lond( n auctions on tee loih inst., at prices firm at the advance previously reported.

Soeepskine.— Priceß have improved. On Monday we cleared a large catalogue at full values. Tallow and Rough Fat.— Market firm. We repeat last quotations. Hides. — Market dull. Horsehair. — We have gold 3 bales and 42 bags during the week on account of vaiious vendors at Is per lb. Babbit skinet^We are in receipt of a cablegram from our London agentß reporting an advance of Id to l^d per lb. As buyers had been anticipating this for some time past, there is very little alteration in tbe local market, which, however, i* very firm, especially for primefull season lines ; while medium and inferior are not commandso much attention. Quotations are : prime winter greys, 16d to 16jd ; best sp'ing, Is to Is Ojd ; medium spriug, 8d to 10d; winter, coiouied, 9d to 9^d.

Wheat. — The English and Continental markets continue to exhibit a strong tone The local millers are well supplied, and are not anxious to operate,

Oats.— We have sold as follow* :— Prime milling, 2b 3d ; best bright feed, 2s l£d to 2b 2d , medium to good feed, 2s to 2a Id. There is no demand fui seed. Poverty Bay R}egrass.— We quote at 3s 9d per bnshel for prime. Freezing sheep continue in good demand at 2^d to 2\d per lb. delivered at Burnside or Oamaru freezing works. Chaff is in fair enquiry at £3 per ton. Salt Butter. — Owing to large supplies of fresh being placed oa the market, prices bave given way and 8d is now top price.

Mb. F. Meenan, King street, reports :— Wholesale prices, bags included : Oats, meuium to prime, Is lOd to2s2d. Wheat : milling, 3s 61 to 4s; fowls', 3i to 3s 2d. Barley : malting, 4u to 4s 6d ; milling, .is 6i ; feed, 2s 6d to 3s. Chaff : medium, £2 15s to £3 2s 6d. Hay : oaten, £3 ; r.e., best, £3. Bran, £3 10s. PolUrd,£3 10s. Potatoes : Northern, £3 10s ; Taieri, £3 5s ; SoutDern, £3. Butter : fresh, 8d to lOd ; salt, Bd. Cheese.market bare of factoTy.and up to 5d obtainable ior best brands; medium, 4d.
