GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Messrs Samuel Orb and Co., Stafford street, report for the wee ending February 29, as follows : — Wheat.— The new crop id now in the market, though not in large quantities, and sales are easily effected at a price which is more remunerative to the grower than shipping Home, though the market there is firming from latest telegraphic advices. The quality of the new crop is really prime, and good samples may be expected this season. The weather, especially north, beinar favourable for this cereal. We quote from actual sales : Prime milling, 33 5d to 3s 6d ; fowls' feed, 5a 6d to 2s lOd. Grass Seeds. — Byegrass : The supplies are now coming forward, but the demand is slow indeed, and farmers' samples are with difficulty placed at from 2s to 2s 6d, according to quality,— Cocksfoot : There is a little business passing ia this seed for autumn sowing, while for shipment there is also a spurt, and prices may be said to be here 4£d to 5d. — Our actual sales of grass seeds during the week have been 26,0001b5. Oats. — The market for this cereal is if anything better, but only temporary, as the snpply coming forward is small. The new crop is the order of the day, and any lots offering are readily sold at say up to Is 9d, but a heavy bright sample would bring more. The quality offering so far is tip-top. We quote bright milling, Is 9d, extra good a shade more ; ordinary, Is 8d to Isߣd ; inferior, Is 6d to Is 7d.: Chaff.— Harvest operations have materially stopped supplies, and in consequence prices have advanced, so much so that prime oaten sheaf, if cut well and sound, is worth £3. Mb. F. Mbbnan, King street, reports — Wholesale prices, bagt included : Oats, medium to prime, Is 5d to Is B£d, Wheat : milling, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; fowls', 2s 9d to 3s. Barley : malting, 3s 6d to 4s 6d ; milling, 3s 6d ; feed, 3s. Chaff : best, £2 15s ; medium, £2 ; hay, oat, £3; rye-grass, £2 15s. Bran, £2 10s. Pollard, £3 10s. Potatoes : £2 10s. Butter : fresh, 4d to 8d ; salt, nominal, 6d. Cheese, 3d to 4d. Eggs,' lid. Flour : sacks, £9 ; 50tt>, £9 10s; roller, £9 10s to £10. Oatmeal, £8 sa. Roll bacon, 6d ; sides, 7d ; hams, 9d.
