WELLINGTON.

(From oar own Correspondent.) This being the month specially dedicated to St. Joseph, special devotions are held each evening in both the Cathedral and Te Aro parishes, the churches in each being crowded nightly The wonderful success atteadi ig St. Patrick's College since ita opening is the prute of the Catholic population in New Zealand, and especially that portion of it within this diocese. The building itself 19 a monument of what united actbn with perseverance will accomplish Who is there who thought when the College was first opened lor the reception of stu lents on the Ist June, 188 ,, that within two years from that date it would be necessary to increase the accommodation of the then larg-> and handsome building, yet such is tne case. A large hall and additional class-rooms became necessary, °J! n ? t-, lncreasel number of students, and they have been added. Like nil great institutions of this nature, established by aid from a limited population, with hmHH means, there is a debt upon the building, which his Lordship the Mo-t Rev. Dr. Redwood is anxious to see paid off, and as there are a number of persona in the diocese who have promised various amounts, but rnve not yet paid their contributions, the Bishop has caused the following circular to be sent throughout the diocese, which it is hoped will bring in successful results:- "The success of St. Patrick's College, since its solemn opening last yeir, has more than realised our most singuine expectations A large hall and additional class-room have iust been aaaed to it for the accommodation of the students The 'result of the examination of its candid ites for matriculation in the University baa been most satisf ictory, particularly when we consider the short time ot its existence and the many drawbacks attendant on a new foundation. It reflects the highest credit on the ability of the professors and the proficiency of the students. You are aware thit a considerable sum is still due on this great and hopeful institution, and we are determined to h.ive it p-ud as soon as possible We, therefore, exhort all who h ive promised a subscription towards the College to pay it at ;ice, or, at levst, within three months, to the parish-priest of their locahtv who will forward it direct t ) the Bishop, or to the Very Rev. Father Macnannir,!, Wellington. Subscribers of £IC, £25,0r more, who are unable, at present, to pay the whole of their promised subscriptions.ate invited to do so by quarterly or six-monthly instalments. Every sum received will be duly acknowledge! by the Secretary of the Building Fun 4 Committee. People who have not yet subscribed Swoon" l^Vw^Z T* *° "° "^ F " ANCIS
