INVERCARGILL CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of this Society was held in the Boys' Schoolroom, Liddle street, on Tuesday evening, January 11, when there was a large number of members in attendance. The Secretary read the report for the past half-year, in which he highly congratulated the Society on its very satisfactory progress. The balance-sheet was ».lso read, and after being duly criticised, was held over for the auditors — Messrs. M. Gilfedder and D. R. Lawlor— to report on. The next business was the election of office-bearers, and, on a poll being taken, the following gentlemen were duly elected : Mr. McGrath, President; Mr. B. Bradley, Vice-president ; Mr. D. J. L. O'Connor, Secretary ; Mr. M. O'Brien, Treasurer ; Mr. M. Gilfedder, Librarian. On account of the large number of candidates for the other offices, the election of Steward, Trustees, and three other members of the Standing Committee was held over to next meeting.
