IRISH NATIONAL LEAGUE.
.The half-yearly meeting of the Kumara Branch of the Irish National League was held in St Patrick's schoolroom at 4 p.m. on Sunday, the Ist. inst. The objects of the meeting were the adoption of a balance sheet for the expiring term, and the election of officers and a committee of management for the ensuing term. On opening, the president, Mr. Gilbert, referred to the present political aspects of Ireland, pointing out the hopeful signs of the Imperial Parliament conceding the just measures demanded by the Irish National Party. He congratulated the members of Kumara branch on the great success that attended their appeal towards the Payment of Members Fund, and he hoped they one and all would continue their support to this, the first branch of the Land League established in New Zealand until they should witness the dawn of Ireland's freedom — the return of Grattan's Parliament to College Green . He concluded by tendering the resignation of the management committee, as their term of office expired that day. On the motion of Mr. Gilbert, seconded by Mr. J. Moran, Mr. Wall was appointed chairman of the meeting. Mr. Wall, having thanked those present for the honour conferred npon him, called upon the secretary to read the statement of receipts and expenditure for the past term. The statement showed a credit balance of | £30 18s, which, on the motion of Mr. J. Moran, seconded by Mr. Mnrphy, was ordered to be forwarded by the officers of the Branch to Mr. Winter, Treasurer of the Federal Council, Melbourne. The election of officers and committee of management was then proceeded with. Mr. Gilbert was unanimously re-elected president, Mr. Wall elected vice-president, Mr. Duggan re-elected secretary, Messrs. Murphy and Moran treasurers, and Messrs. P. Tanßey, P. Moran, J. Hayes, J. Mnrphy, J. Owaa, T. Corby, J. Conlaa and J. TTynn. members of the committee. Mr. Gilbert returned tbanks for the trust reposed in him by again electing him to the position of president. He again urged them to persevere in. the good work they were so long engaged in, as he felt confident that before a very distant day their efforts would Da crowned with succees. A vote of thanks to the ont-going committee (moved by the president) terminated the business of the meeting.
