Donald Stbonach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), reports for the week ending May 27, as follows :—: — Fat Cattle. — Th ere were only 102 yarded at Burnside to-day for the week's supply. Two-thirds of these were little better than stores, the balance fair to good. For the latter quality competition was fairly brisk, and an advance of fully 2s 6d per 1001 bon last week's prices obtained. This small number would not have been sufficient for requirements, but buyers being well supplied from previous full markets, biddings were only moderate. Best bullocka brought £7 15s to £9 12s 6d ; cows, from £2 15s to £8. We sold on account of Mr. J. M. Fat Calves. — Ten were penned, and sold at from 5s to 25s each. Fat Sheep. — 1933 were penned, of which about 300 were merinos, the balance being cross-breds, all good to prime quality. Although this was a much smaller number than has been presented, at the yards for several weeks back, prices realised did not Bhow over Is per head om those obtained last week. Best cross-breds (wethers) brought 14s to 15s 6d (two extra prime pens up to 17s 6d) ; others, 32s 6d to 13s 6d ; ewes,* 10s to 13s 3d ; merinos, 7s to 11s. This was again a smaller number than we have been receiving for some time. Competition for porkers and bacon pigs was brisker, and an advance of fully 7s 6d was obtained ; suckers and slips were scarcely so well competed for. The latter brought from 7s to 20s ; porkers, 26s to 40s ; bacon pigs, 48s to 64s each. Store Cattle and Sheep.— We have no transactions to report. Sheepskins.— On account of the holiday on Monday we held our weekly sale on Tuesday, which was well attended, and competition throughoutthe sale was brisk. Considering the quality of the skins offered' prices show an improvement as compared with last week's. Country dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought Is 6d to 3s; full wool, 3s to 4s ; do. Marino, low to medium, Is 4d to 2s 8d; full wool, 2s lOd to 4s 9d ; dry pelts, 2d to 4d ; butcher's, green crossbreds, 2s 6d to 2s lid ; do. do. merino, Is 8d to 2s 6d. One bale brought 5Ad, 4 bags 6id, 6 do. 6fd, 1 do. 7jd, 3 do. 9|d per lb. Hides. — A steady demand continues to exist for all lots coming to hand at late rates. . Tallow. — A quiet tone continues to prevail Shippers are not inclined to operate except at prices which leave no margin to the producer. Local consumers are only buying foi immediate requirements Little business is being done, and prices are unchanged. Grain — Wheat: Millers' requirments appear for the present satisfied ; but there would be no difficulty in disposing of really prime samples, particularly white velvet, although perhaps a shade under our last quotations would have to be accapted. We quote prime milling velvet and Tuscan at 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; medium 33 to 3s Id ; red wheat, in good hard condition, 3s to 3s Id ; medium, 2s 9d to 2s lid ; broken and damp wheat, only fit sor fowls' wheat, 2s to 2s 6d.— Oats : Beyond a few transactions for shipment, there has been no movement to recor ; and, as growers are not anxious to realise at current rates, stocks are rapidly increasing, and getting daily into larger dimensions ; a large proportion of which is unfit for snipment, and only saleable here at greatly reduced preces. The demand for all sorts is easier this week. We quote prime milling, Is 8d to Is B£d ; short bright feed. Is 8d ; medium and discolored, Is 7d 30 Is 7|d.
