CHAPTER XIV.

General Diseases— Typhoid Fever. There a,re many cases narrated of cures of a most sudden or rapid character taking place in cases of typhoid fever when the patient was reduced to the last extremity, and had been •' given np " by both pbysioians and friends. la all such c&ses the Sacrament of Hitreme Unction had been administered, when the person was of an age to receive it. Such cases would be open to the very obvious objection from unbelievers that they might have been merely recoveiks from natural causes, and Catholics might object that the recovery was due to the Sacrament of Extreme Unction. All, therefore, have been excluded, with one exception, given merely as a sample of very many others. Typhoid Fever (Vol. v., p. 120).— Mdlle. Marie Cestae, of, Olerou, in the diocese of Bayonne, was attacked with Typhoid fever. Two pr ysicians had condemned her. The last sacraments had been aciarii istered, ana all hope was lost. In her delirium she called for Louises water. Her mother gave her some to drink, and at the same tinm vowed a pilgrimage to Lourdes. From that moment the disease was arrested ; the next day the physicians remarked a wonderful

change ; danger disappeared immediately and some days after Mdlle. Marie Cestae, perfectly cured, accomplished her mother's vow by making a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Remarks.— The details of this case are so scanty that, taken by itself, it would not be worth much, but there are so many of the same kind that 1 have thought it well to give one as an example.
