Mr. Donald Smjonach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending 30th April, as follows: — Fat Cattle.— 24l bead were yarded at Burnride to-day for the week s supply, representing all qualities. The number again was in excess of requirements, enditg in a dull sale. Best bullocks brought £9 to *10 2s 6d ; otheis, £6 to £7 12s 6d ; best cows, up to £7 10s ; others, £2 10s to £5 10s. Sheepskins.— At our weekly sale oa Monday we offered a full catalogue, comprising all sorts. The usual number of buyers were in attendance, and competed spiritedly for every lot offeredf green skins in particular. Butchers' green oross-breds brought 2a 3d to 2s lid • dry do., 2s 4d to 4s 9d ; green merinos. Is lOd to 2s 3d ; dry do., 3a 8d to 4s 6d ; do. pelts, 2d to 9d ; green lambskins, Is lid to 2s Id. Rabbitskins.—There is a good demand for these, and all comine to hand easily placed at higher rates. 8 Hides.— We experience no difference in the state of the market and all our consignments were placed this week at late rates ' Tallow.— Local demand continues good. On Monday 'we sold medium to good at from 25s to 325, and rough fat at 23s 6d per cwt Grain.— Wheat : The state of the market for this staple is verY unsatisfactory in the meantime. Prime milling is saleable and baa been sold at up to 3s lOd this week, but only in very small narcelTany quantity from 900 to 1000 bushels has a difficulty in findinsa purchaser, except at a price far below the above. Soft and frosted samples, of which there are a good many, are only saleable at from 2s 9d to 3s 3d. So long as beet milling is sold in. Cbristchurch at 3s 3d to 3a 5d our local millers contend that, unless they can buy equally low, they cannot compete out of Dunedin. Oats : There is a very good market for these, more particularly for good, bright, round oats for export, and all such coming forward are easily disposed of at equal to last week's prices, — viz. : Stout bright milling, 2s 2d to 2s 2Ad • stout bright feed, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; long or discoloured, Is lOd to 2s' Barley is in fair demand, and there are samples in the market, but holders decline to sell at the prices offered iii most cases, so that in the meantime business is confined to very few transactions. Quotations for prime malting are 4s to 4s 3d ; medium, 3s 6d to 3s 9d * milling, 3s to 3s 6d ; bags weighed in at all the above prices. Ryegrass seed is without inquiry.
