One of the crew of the ship Samoa, which passed the scene of the Java earth quakes, writes teat his ship for two days " plowed through masses of dead bodies, hundreds and hundreds striking the ship on both sides, groups of fifty to a hundred all packed together." Not a living soul was left in Anj r. Vegetation was killed by the ashes,' which lay like snow all over the land. Borne, Dec. 7. — Signor Nicotera, ex-Minister of the Interior, and Signor Lovito, fiirst Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, fought a duel with swords to-day. Both were wounded. Nicotera, had grossly insulted Lovito at the National Chambers. The duel was a disgraceful and ruffianly struggle.
