A correspondent of the American Canoeist gives an interesting account of an ancient Irish canoe which he saw at Lavey Strand o i the road from Cavan to Dublin. It was a dug-out, forty feet long,, four feet three inches across at the widest part, and made from an oak tree which must have been at least seven and a-half feet in diameter at the butt. There are no such oaks in that vicinity now. The lake on which it was used was only 200 acres in extent and contained two artificial islands built on piles and supported by framework of enormous dimensions.
