As a result of Mr. Davitt's protest against the brutality and inhumanity of the workhouse authorities at Loughrea, the Government has ordered an investigation of the causes which brought about the death of the pauper Burke, whose body was discovered by Mr. Davitt on .the roadside. The inquiry is to be a searching one, and its scope is intended to cover all abuses that can be unearthed, with a view to speedily correcting them.
