Messes. Dokald Reid and Co. report for week ending 23rd August as follows :—: — b " Fat Cattle.— 2o4 were yarded. Some 85 of these were prime (the best),being drafts from Greenfield and Hopehill; most of the others ranged from stores to very medium quality. Fat Sheep.— To-day's market was supplied with 428 merinos of useful quality, and 2537 crossbreds. These included some really prime draft*. There was a weak demand, prices declining Is to la 6d a head. Best cross-breds sold at 13s 6d to 17s 3d ; others, ]0s to 13s ; merino wethers, 7s to 10s 3d. We penned 424, and sold on account of Messrs. Cargill and Anderson, f 10m their celebrated Glenham Estate \IZ very fine four-tooth three-quartor bred Romney wethers at 17s 3d • on account of W. L. Eidde 1, Esq. (Willowmead), 120 cross-breds to Us 9d ; on account of John Henderson, Esq. (VVaihola Estate) 100 prime cross-breds at 15s; and for Joseph Graham, Esq. C Waihola), 82 cross-breds to 12s 9d. We quote prime mutton 2A per lb. This number proved more than enough to meet requirements, prices ruling a shade easier. Best sold at 30s to to 44a ; medium, 12s to 29s ; small pigs, 3s to 14s. We quote port 4£d to 4£ per lb. * Store Cattle.— We have several lots of well-grown bullocks and som* spejed heifers for eale. There is, however, but little inquiry. Next month there will be more business doing. Store Sheep.— We sold 350 crossbred ewes at 10s 6d. Sheepskins.— On Monday we offered a moderate catalogue. There was brisker cotnp tition for all lots. Crossbreds were in better demand, and prices rather higher than last week. Merinos realised full rates. Grain.— Wheat : We have no change to report. Choice Tuscan and velvet are inquired for ; prices offered are not, however, up to vendors expectations, and therefore but little business has transpired. A fair trade has been done in seed samples, which we sold up to 6s Chick feed is scarce, and sells at 3s 6d to 3s lOd. Oats : Owing to the light arrivals during the last few weeks, the market is pretty well cleared, and consequently prices are firmer, especially for heavy bright milling and feed, which we quote at 3s Id to 3s 3d ; ordinary do, 3s ; discoloured, 2s 8d to 2s 1 Id. Bariey : There is no demand excepting J or /^"y bj ?S^ full-grained samples fit for malting ; these fetch 4s to 4s 6d ; milling, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; feed, 3s.
