A. T. Bte wart's remains are now supposed to rest in the Cathedral I n Garden City, built by Mrs. Stewart as a mausoleum for the cadaver stolen from St. Mark's churchyard in New York. If he had been poor, a politician, or beloved, there would have been no doubt about it. As it is, he was a stingy, selfish, money grubber, and very few care how his corpse is carted about. — Boston Sunday Mail.Contradictory accounts of Mexico are given by present travellers. A correspondent of the Chicago Tribune says, '• It is not simply an impoverished country, with great natural resources which have been exhausted, for no degree of agricultural and commercial distress is beyond the possibility of recuperation, This country is naturally poor. Volcanic fires have blasted its surface. Vast sections, hundreds of square leagues, are but extinct craters. A correspondent of th« Louisville Courier-Journal is equally positive that Mexico is not peor and arid, but " if inhabited by our race, in five years, with such a population and only of an equal number with that which Mexico now has, the mineral and agricultural exports alone would nearly equal all the exports of any other country in the world." London, April 30. — At a meeting of the Metropolitan Asylum'i Board, to-day, it was announced, that within twenty-eight days, 1,500 cases of smallpox had been refused admission in the hospitals because they were full. During the same period 207 persons died in their own homes from smallpox. There "are now 1014 cases of smallpox in the London hospital, and only one bed avilablf. About ten per cent, of the cases prove fatal. During the past fortnight 153 persons have died in the hospital from smallpox.
