The Illustrated London News last week presented to its readers a picture of Mr. Hearne, lately attacked in Connaught, in bed, recognising to a certain extent the two Nallys as his assailants. There he lies, and there they stand, and all England is thus asked to say " Guilty." And yet those two men have been within the last few days acquitted by the direction of the judge who tried them. English people would have said, " Abolish tria by jury in Ireland," if the judge had not directed the acquittal. — Universe.
