Mr. Donald Steonach ( on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited), reports for the week ending 6th April, as follows :—: — Fat Cattle. — At this day's market 214 head were yarded, the greater part of ■which were sold at about last week's prices, but several bead not realising owners' ideas, were turned out. Bullocks fetched from £4 2s 6d to £10 7s 6d, and cows £3 10s to £9 7s 6d. We sold drafts on account of the Henley Estate and others at the following prices :— Bullocks, £4 2a 6d to £8 7s 6d, and cows £3 15s to £6 15s. Quotations for best beef, 20s per lOOlbs. Fat Calves.— Only 5 were offered, which sold at from 13s to 26s each. Fat Sheep.— The market was well supplied with 2028 bead, of which 1672 were cipss-bred, the remainder being merino stores. Demand was fairly brisk, and the cross-breds were sold at from 8s 9d to 14s 3d, showing an improvement of Is to Is 6d per head on last week's prices ; the merinos were knocked down at 5s 6d. We sold a draft of 144 cross-breds on account of Messrs. A. and L. Little, Mount Stuart, at from 12s 9d to 13s 6d, and quote prime mutton 2^d per lb. to 2£d per lb. Fat Lambs. — 77 were sold at from 10s to 10s 6d per head. Fat Pigs.— l3l offered realised from 11s to 625. We sold 42 at from 28b to 62s each. Store Sheep. — The inquiry continues very strong for all descrip* tions of store sheep, but the supply offering is utterly inadequte to satisfy the demand. Sheepskinß. — "We disposed of a large catalogue on Monday at our weekly sale, when the improvement recorded in last report was fully maintainad. Cross-bred skins fetched from 2s lOd for ordinary to 6s 5d for full-woolled ; merinos, 2s Id to 4s lid ; lambskins, Is 9d to 3s 6d ; and pelts, 7d to Is lOd each ; scoured skins, in bales, 7Jd per lb. Hides. — Pi ices realised at our sale on Monday showed a recovery from the slight depression manifest at the preceding sale, and the whole of the lots offered were well competed for, and sold at op to 23s each (for average weight 541b5.) Tallow. — The demand being active, and fully equal to taking off all supplies to hand, we have cleared our consignments at some improvement on last prices, say up to 26s per cwt. for fairly rendered tallow. Bough fat is worth 16s 6dper cwt., at which, we raport calM Grain. — Wheat : Harvesting operations being now pretty well completed, farmers are beginning to place their produce more freely on the market, and no difficulty is experienced in disposing of any parcels at about last week's quotations. We quote 3s 9d to 3s 10d for prime milling ; 3s 6d to 3s 8d for fair to good ; and 2s 6d to 3s for fowl feed. Oats : Feed oats are in fair request, chiefly for shipment, and sales have been made at Is 6d to Is 7d per bushel for good quality. The demand for milling is very small, and quotations nominal at Is 7id to Is Bd. Barley : Nothing of interest to report. PEODUCE MABKET— APBIL 7, 1881. Messrs. Mebceb and McDonald, Rattray street, report :— Fresh butter is still very plentiful, best and favourite brands (in lib. and £lb. prints), lOd &11 d per lb. ; Eggs, Is 9d per dozen. Roll bacon, 8d per lb. Good salt butter, in kegs, 6d to 7d. Mr. F. Mbekajn, Great King street, reports : — Wholesale prices : Oats, Is 6d to Is 7d per bushel ; milling wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 9d per bushel ; fowls' feed, 2s to ds ; barley, malting, 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; feed, Is 9d to 2s 6d per bushel ; hay, £3 per ton ; chaff, £2 15s per ton ; straw, £2 per ton : bran, £3 per ton ; pollard, £4 per ton ; flour, £9 10s to £10 per ton ; oatmeal, £9 per ton ; butter, fresh, 8d to 9d ; salt, 6d to 8d ; eggs, Is 9d ; bacon in rolls, 8d ; side, B£d ; hams, 10^d ; fresh pork, 4|d per lb. ; potatoes £2 15 to £3 per ton. Mk. Joseph B. Sheath, Tuam street, Chri9tchurch, reports on thn grain market for the week ending April 2nd, 1881. Wholesale prices : — Wheat, milling, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; chick, Is 9d to 2s 6d. Oats, good milling:, Is 7d to Is 9d ; feed, Is 5d to Is 7d. Barley, best malting, 2s fid to 3p 6d ; feed, Is 3d to Is 9d. Grass seed — in good demand, at from 2s 6d to 3s 6d ; cocksfoot, 2£d to 2|d. Potatoes, 30s to 355. Beans, 3s. Peas, 3s to 3s 6d. Cheese, 3d to 3£d. Butter, 6d to 7d. Hay, 60s. ■
