Donald Stronaoh Con behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited), reports for the week ending 17th November as follows :—: — < • Fat Cattle. — At the Burnside yards to-day 193 head were offered, of which about 20 were stores, the remainder consisting of good to prime. Bidding was very slow, and several head were turned out, prices not reaching sellers' ideas. For those realised a reduction of about 28 6d per 1001 b. was submitted to. Fat bullocks sold at from £6 12s 6d to £11 12s 6d ; and cows, £5 to £8 2s 6d. We disposed of drafts on account of Mr. J. C. Buckland at £6 12s 6d to £8 2s 6d for bullocks, and £5 2s 6d to £5 12s 6d for cows ; and on account of Mrs. Smillie, bullocks at £8 12s 6d, and cows £8. We quote prime beef 22s 6d per 1001 b. Fat Calves. — Fourteen head were yarded, and sold at from 18s to 46s per head. Fat Sheep were in good supply, 1896 head having been offered. Demand was a little brisker than of late, and prices showed an improvement of about 6d to Is per head. Cross-breds fetched 8s to 11s 9d ; and merinos, 6s 3d to 7s. We sold on account of Messrs. J. and S. Wilson, Oamaru, 248 head at Bb. We quote shorn cross-breds fully l£d per lb. Fat Lambs.— ln consequence of another large supply — 780 head — last week's prices were not supported. Prices ranged from 3s 9d to 8s 9d per head. We sold drafts on account of Mr. William Shand, at 6s 9d to 6s 3d ; of Messrs. J. and 8. Wilson, at 7s 3d to 7s 9d ; and on account of Mr. J. C. Buckland, at 5s 9d (for Southdowns). Fat Pigs. — Fifty-three were sold at from 20s to 55s each. Store Sheep. — We have enquiries for a large number of young cross-breds and merinos.
Store Cattle. — We call attention to our sale of store cattle at Mosgiel yards on Thursday, 25th inst., when we expect to offer about 150 head of quiet bullocks, cows, and heifers, from Mr. Walter Miller's Roxburgh Estate.
Sheepskins.— We offered a small catalogue at our weekly auction on Monday, which sold at fair prices with good competition. Butchers 1 crossbreds realised 4s 4d to 6s Id ; merinos, 4s 2d to 5s sd ; station skins, in bales, 6jd per lb.; lambskins, Is each ; and pelts, trom 4d up to Is 3d each.
Hides. — Market firm at late quotations of 20s for butchers' green hides, and 3jd per lb. for wet-salted, at which we have placed all lots coming forward.
Tallow. — Well-rendered may be quoted 24s to 255, and rough fat 16s per cwt. We report sales at quotations. Grain. — Wheat: There is still ao inquiry for prime milling samples, which could be placed without difficulty at our last quotation of 4s Bd, but stocks of this description are very short, and business consequently restricted. For lower qualities there is very little demand. We quote prime milling, 4s 8d ; medium, 3s 6d to 4s 3d per bushel. Oats : Best milling are worth Is 7d to Is Bd, and feed Is 4d to Is 6d. Some sales have been made for shipment, and at auction last week several parcels of feed were cleared at quotations ; beyond this the local demand has been very small. Barley: No business to report. Nominal quotations : for prime malting, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; medium, 2s 6d to 3s per bushel.
