THE NEW CABINET.
The new Ministers who aie also members of the Cabinet are Mr. Gladstone, Premier and Chancellor of the Exchequer ; Lord Selborae, Lord Chancellor of Englanel ; the Duke of Argyll, Lord Privy Seal ; Sir William Harcourt, Home Secretary : Earl Granvillc, Foreign Secretary : the Earl of Kimbeiiey," Colonial Secretary ; Lord Hartington, Secretary for India : Mr. Childers, Secretary for War ; Lord Northbrook, First Lord of the Admiralty ; Mr. Bright, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster ; Mr. W. R. Furster. Chief Secretary for Ireland ; Lord Spencer. President of the Council ; Mr. Doelson, President of the Local Government Board ; and Mr. Chamberlain, President of the Board of Trade. The members of the Government who are not in the Cabinet are Mr. Fawcett, PostmasterGeneral ; Mr. Mundella, Vice-Piesidcnt of the Council ; Sir Charles Dilke, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs ; and Lord Frederick Cavendish. Financial Secretary to the Treasury. Of the other appointments the only one of interest is that of the Marquis of Ripon to the viceroyalty of India. Of course, the appointment which most concerns liishmen is that ot Mr. Forstcr, anel it i« not one which gives them much hope of beneficial legislation. Mr. Korster is a fairspoken man, and will be. in every way, a great improvement on Mr. Lowtber, but he has no sympathy whatever with Irish aspirations, and on the land question is not inelineel to go even so far as to give fixity of tenure. On the whole, it looks as if theiv were to be as much reason for " Obstruction " in the new Parliament as ia that which closed its existence last month. — Nation.
