Lokdon, April Ist. News from Cape Town, dated the Bth of April, states that Lord Cbelmsford reached Guncholora on the Gth, and that his troops encountered a, large foice of tbe Zulus on this 2nd a severe engagement ensued. 1200 Zulus being killed. The British lossis not stated. April 22nd. In the engagement of the 2nd inst. with tbe main boefy of the forces under the immediate command of Lord Chelmsford tbe British lost 400 iv killed and wounded, and the Zulus 3000. The rebellious Boeis are investing Pretoria, anel threaten to detain Sir Baltic Frere as a hostage. After relieving Ekowe, Lord Chelmsford retired on Gurgelova. He abanelons Ekowc as a militaiy position, and entrenched his camp between Tugela and Port Durnford. Consols, 93 £.
