«. * £ TJBLI . C Notice.— Having learnt from a number of his clients that there is an impression abroad that he, G. Hirsch, Dunedin Dya \\ orks, George-street, had gone out of the business as Dyer and Cleaner, earned on by him for the last fifteen yeaxs in this city, perhaps because he has let part of his premises— his shop only— to a shoemaker, this is to give notice that he is still Dyeing and Cleaning at the same works. Orders will be left at bis office in. George-street^ between his former shop, now a shoe shop, and the « Little Dustpan" shop, almost opposite Miss Clough's. A new religious Association, composed of military men of all ranks, has just been established in France under the patronage of St Maurice. Its director is a priest, and the laws and constitutions governing it are similar to those of the St. Vincent de Paul Confraternity. St. Maurice, the commander of an entire legion of Martyrs, is considered the patron Saint of the infantry, and St. George, of whom the Legend says that he was an officer of horse, is the patron of the cavalry. St. Barbara, who was burned at the stake, is honoured by the artillerymen as their patroness. At Hildesheim Cathedral there is a rosebush which is believed to be over a thousand years old. In recent years it seems to have been getting into decrepitude, and fears have been entertained that it was going to die. The help of the most renowned gardeners has been called in to prevent this, if possible, and several foreigners have been on the spot tor this purpose. Whether it be due to their endeavours or not, the old thing seems to have taken fresh heart again. Out of the root knobs of the bush a new sprout has appeared, which is
