COROMANDEL SCHOOL.

Major Keddell visited the Roman Catholic School at Coromandel last week, for the purpose of awarding some prizes to several of the children attending the school. The prizes were given by a member of the school committee, — a gentleman who has always taken a deep interest in all matters relating to Catholicity in the district. The prizes were for the best report of the picnic which was held at Coromandel on Easter Monday. There were three prizes awarded as follows : Ist. Miss Kate Lynch, aged 10 years ; 2nd. Miss Mary A. Barry, a°-ed 12 years ; 3rd. Miss Bridget Ryan, aged 13 years. The school is conducted by Miss Gray, a lady of very high attainments, and I am informed that she has given every satisfaction since she took charge of the school. I may also state that the school is under the patronage of the Rev. Father O'Reilly, the respected pastor of the Roman Catholics of this place, a gentleman who, by his zeal in all matters connected with his flock, has won their love and admiration to an extent that will for ever endear him to them. In presenting the prizes, Major Keddell, the respected Warden and R.M. of this district, took occasion to compliment all those who had the management of the school on the satisfactory state in which he found it, and paid a very high compliment to the teacher, and also to the Rev. Father O'Reilly. Miss Mary A. Gray (.sister to the teacher)was here on a visit, and gave two very handsome books for competition. It must be a source of great satisfaction to the Catholics here to witness the interest taken in their school by Major Keddell, who, although having many duties to attend to, is always foremost in aiding every good undertaking. — [Communicated to the Thames Advertiser.^
