Mr. Hexry Driver (on behalf of the N. Z. L. and. M. A. Co.) reports for the week ending May 22nd :—: — The following f at stock came forward a+ the yards to day, "viz :—: — 184 head of cattle, 9 calves, 3019 sheep, GO lambs. Fat Cattle. — Those forward consisted chiefly of good to prime quality, and 150 found buyers at a shade under late quotations, the balance beir>g held over until next week. The bidding at the latter gtfid of the sale was very weak. Best bullocks brought from £9 to W&VS ;do cows, from £0 10s to £9 10s— or equal to about 2Gs to 27s Cd per 1001 b for prime quality. We sold 50 at the Yards, and have placed 100 privately at quotations. Fat Calves. — These sold afc from lus to oos, according to weight and quality. Fat Sheep. — The number penned was far in excess of the requirements of the trade, and n reduction in prices had to be submitted to about Is per head, but the whole lot were sold, the Meat Preserving Company taking about 800. Best cross-breds brought from 9s (5d to 12s ; merinos, 6s to Ss Cd— or from 2|d to 2id for former, and 2d latter. Fat Lambs. — The small number forward brought from 8s 6d to 10s. Store Stock. — Owing to the severe weather during the past week, there has been no business in store cattle or sheep. Wool. — Out London office cables, us under date of 13th May :—: — " Sales opened at asaverage decline of tW to Id oa February prices.c es. Principal decline has been in cross-breds. 8500 bales were catalogued on the opening day. 17,000 bales have been sent direct to the manufacturing districts. Sheepskins.— At our sale on Monday we catalogued 1400 skins, prices ruling about the same as last week. Butchers' half-breds, 2s 8d to 3s sd ; station skins, in bales, up to 7d per lb. Hides are still in good demand at 4d per lb, and for any extra goodlots 4£d could bo got. Tallow. — Fair qualityi s saleable at 27s Cdto 29s ; good bright, in shipping condition, 80s to 31s ; rough fat, 21s to 225. Grain.— Wheat : There has been more enquiry the last few days, but no transaction of importance — qxiotations arc unsaleable. Fine milling, 4s 4d to 4s Gd ; fair to good, 4s to 4s 3d. Oats : There is htill good enquiry, but no alteration in prices ; 3s 4d to 3s od for good heavy feed : milling, 3s Gd. Barley : Malting samples are in greater demand and bring advanced rates— ss to os 6d for good ;os9dto Gs for very choice. Mr J. Vezey reports for the week ending Hay 22, 1878, retail : Roasting beef, Mto Sd per ft ; boiling do., 3d to 5d per lb ; stewing do, 4d to 6d pei< Jb ; steak, 6d to 8d per lb ; mutton, 2id to 5d per lb 5 veal, 4d to 8d per lb ; pork Gd to Sd per It) ; lamb 2s 6d to 4s per quarter Mr J. Fleming roports (wholesale prices) for the week ending May 22, 1878, as follows: — Oats (feed), 3s 3d per bushel Wheat— milling, 4s ; chicks, 3s to 3s 4d. Barley, malting, 4s to 4s Gd : feed, 3s to 3s Gd. Pollar 1, £5 10s per ton. Bran, £4 os, bags included. Flour, large bag?. £11 ; small, £11 10s. Oatmeal, £18. Potatoes, 3s (3d per cvt. Hay, £7 10s per ton. Hay, £4 10s per ton. Chaff, £4 10s per ton. Straw, £2 per ton.
