HIBERNIAN-AUSTRALASIAN CATHOLIC BENEFIT SOCTETY.
Thj:*e sport- were held on St. Stephen's Day on the grounds of the Caledonian Society, and attracted a large number of visitors. The weather was most favourable, one shower only disturbing the pleasures of the occasion. The various events, for which a liberal provision had l>cen made, were well contested, and the interest of the spectators was warmly kept up throughout. The wisdom of selecting a site within an easy distance of the city was very evident as people were able to come and go as it suited their convenience, and thus many families wore afforded an opportunity of being present who would otherwise have been obliged to content themselves with staying at home, or by an excursion to some private locality. It is computed that there were alwut 2000 persons on the ground-, and a thoroughly j enjoyable holiday was .spent by them. We append a list of the e\entb: — Hibernian Handicap. 200, 300, and 400 yards. First, second, smd third best aggregates. Prizes : £8, iI4, and £2. First distance, tirst heat. The starters were : — J. Macphcrson (scratch). J. Murdoch (9 yaid-). S. Brook* (11 yards), and M. Scanlan (14 yards).) Youths" Handicap Hack, 440 yards, heats. Prizes: 15s. 10s, and r>s. There were twelve competitors. The result was, Samuel Kerr, 1 ; W. Skitdi. 2 : M. Carcn. 3 ; A. Deaker. 4. Wrestling. Collar and Klbow. — Prizes, £?> and £1. There were three competitor*, ami the first prize was won by John deary, and the seeoud by V. Keenan. j Irish .Fig. — Prizes £1 10s and £1 : Michael Fenton, 1 ; B. Hickey, 2. There were six competitors. Handicap Walking Race. — Prizes. £3 and £1. Four started ; M. Carr and S. Brooks (scratch), J. McGregor (60 yards), Kerr (75 yards). Irish KErx.— Prize-. Cl 10.s and £1 ; Hickey, 1 ; Fenton, 2. Four entries. Wrestltvg (Cumberland Style, Light Weights). — Prizes, 30s, and 10s : Allan. 1 : Burke. 2. Five competitors. Wrestling (Cumberland Ftylc, Heavy Weights.) — Prizes, 30s and 10s ; Fleming. 1 ; Tyson, -hu.. 2. There were three competitors. Band Race, 200 yards.— Prizes, 15s and 10s; Hogg, 1 ; Chapman, 2. Consolation Handicap, 440 yards.— Prize*, £2, £1, and 10s ; Nicolas (scratch), 1 ; Scanlan (25 yds), 2s ; Henderson (5 yds), 3. Time, 59 sees. _
