There has been a very nasty row between South Sea Islanders and whites at North Rockhainpton, caused by the disgracef ul conduct of a drunken white man who made an unprovoked attack on a Polynesian. The row assumed large proportions. The ' Bulletin ' says there were three hundred and fifteen persons engaged in it, of whom the odd fifteen were Polynesians, their three hundred opponents being white men. The Polynesians naturally defended themselves with anything that came handy, and some very nasty missiles were soon flying about, the innocent spectators, as they generally do, getting the worst of it. The blacks after making a ' good show for supremacy, were ultimately routed. One unfortunate darky was compelled to take the river, where, says the ' Bulletin,' he only escaped serious injury from missiles, by constantly diving.
