THE CRISIS ON THE CONTINENT.
i +-j. I The ' Post ' says : — Men's blood boils at the notion of Germany marching her armies on to the French territory, when the French scrupulously strive to avoid all cause of offence to Germany. The more people think over this matter, the more they abhor such a | policy of wrong and violence. They are aware that perfect and enormous preparations for war are more powerful than mere ideas, however strong; and this knowledge but intensifies the feeling. But when ideas are really strong and generally entertained, they lead very often to arrangements not contemplated at the time. It is to be hoped that the indignation of Europe in this matter will yet bear good fruit. The present crisis may have been surmounted | through the action of the Emperor of Eussia; but, should such ! another crisis arise, it is to be hoped that the peace of Europe will | not depend alone on the word of one man. Europe can and ought I to have other guarantees for peace and against wanton oppression.
