St. Joseph's Branch, No. 73.

'IHB ninth quarterly meeting of the abore branch was held in the Society's rooms on Monday evening last, the President (Bro. P. Bourke) in the chair. There was a large attendance of members. The minutes of last meeting vrere read and confirmed. Sick and distressed.— The Secretary read certificates from the M.A. declaring Bro. James Kennedy off, and Bro. John Kelly on the Sick Fund. Correspondence.— Letters were read from the Charleston, Boss, and Greymouth Branches, approving of the advertising resolutions from the Corresponding Secretary, Melbourne j Mr. J. J. Lowler, Lawrences Bro. James Ling, Wellington: and Deputy Bro. P. Griffin, Melbourne, the latter giving his opinion on the esaablishing of District Boards. The correspondence was received. The Band Committee brought up a progress report, which was deemed satisfactory by the members. Bro. J. D. Griffen was appointed bandmaster, pro tern., and Bro. M. Connellan Hon. Sec. and Treasurer. Several important resolutions touching the constitution of the band were passed. Nomination of Officers. — The following members were nominated to the various offices of .the Branch for the ensuing term :— President, Bro. P. Bourke (the retiring President), and R. Carroll; VicePresident, Bro. James Moroney, John Brennan, and J. Gallaher j Secretary, Bro. John Cantwell ; Treasurer, Bro. M. Connellan ; Warden, Bro. John Leary j Guardian, Bros. J. Bonny and W. Conway : Sick Visitors, Bros. Golden and T. O'Donnell. Bro. Cantwell gave notice that at the next meeting he would more the following resolution :— " That, in the opinion of this Branch, the present system of D. B. Government is expensive and unnecessary, and in order that the wants of the several branches in the Colony may be attended to without delay, that the Executive Directory be requested to amend the laws at the next annual meeting, bo as to provide for the appointment of deputies to represent the E. D. Also, that provision be made for the retention of the Funeral Fund in the Colony." Moved by Bro. Moylan and seconded by Bro. Brennan—" That a rote of thanks be recorded in the minutes to Deputy Griffin for the invaluable assistance rendered by him for the benefit of St. Joseph's Branch." Carried unanimously. Cash received, £23 3s. As usual the meeting closed with prayer.
