The estate is intended for a convent and school for gSs. Over 14,600d01s is already paid on the purchase. " The new Catholic Asylum at Newhaven, Coan., is to cost 40,000 dols, and will accommodate 200 boys. It will be located on the grounds near where St. Francis Asylum stands. giuunus Catholic Hall in Washington—The leading temperance men of Washington contemplate the erection of a CaFholic hall in that city, and tor that purpose propose organising a joint stock company and issuing five thousand shares of twenty dollars each, the building to cost one hundred thousand dollars. Dr Brownson says in the last number of his ' Review ':—<• We are surprised to learn of the great increase of Catholic publications durin<* the last eight years. From the number sent us, we would infer that the increase had been more than tenfold. This proves that our Uathohe books are in demand, that our Catholic commuuity is a reading community, and are encouraging their own literature. This is a wholesome symptom, and proves that our Catholic schools are doing this work. - b
