THE FREE PASSAGE SYSTEM.
The ' Cromwell Argus,' in calling attention to the fact that the system of free nominated immigration is now in force, and may be taken advantage of by any person who may have friends in the old country who may be desirous of immigrating, says .-—There can be no doubt; that if it is desirable at all to promote further immigratiou, this is the proper system under which it should be done, and we would therefore advise every one who proposes to himself to become a settler in this country to inquhe into the nature of it. The ' Southland Times ' says : — The nomination of immigrants uudev the new system for the district shows a considerable increase on the former rate of applications. The number nominated during the month amounts to 137, of which number only 1 1 were nominated before the 20 th ult., the day on which the new regulations came into force. As the facility for bringing out immigrants becomes more extensively known, there is no doubt but that the applications will materially increase. AH our exchanges bear testimony to the prosperous state of the country, and to the fact that the colony can absorb irore immigrants than are coming into it. It will be perceived from a Government announcement in our advertising columns, that emigrants may, in special cases, be nominated by trade or calling through the friends ot agents in England of the nominators. Forms and particulars can be obtained from any Immigration Officer.
