IRISH EMIGRANT AID SOCIETY IN NEW YORK.
This is the name of a sn-iety formed quite recently in New York It seems from the following extract from the 'Irish- American* to be an organisation calculated to effect an immense amount of good. " The great mistake made by our countrymen who got to the United Statss is tUeir settling down m the seaboard cities of the East, instead of going West, whore they m>xy become, on ca 3 y terms, farmers or landed proprietors. This mistake it i 3i 3 which the new society proposes to remedy :~ An or«;;ini<?»tion has been recently formed in this city, under the title of tho Irish National lSini^r.int Aid Union for the purpose of assisting in securing better facilities und treatment for Irish immigrants while en route, to aid deserving Irish families desirins to emigrate West and settle there as agriculturists, and to otherwise promote ar.d protect the welfare and interests of Irish emigrants It is i proposed to h-ive branches forme I in various cities to act "as bureaus of correspondence, and to enlarge the faoiliiies of thu society for the promotion of it* objects. Mr. James Breunuu, i>mni«/ration a^ent for lowa, and General G-eorge M. O'Brien, of Omaha, Neb , attended at the first meeting, and assured the Union of their active co-operation '
