Whangarei. —On the 11th ultimo, the dwelling of REGINALD ROY PELLEW, flat 6, Almond Court Flats, Dent Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A ring with four keys, and a lanyard (recovered); a gentlemen’s silver-plated open-face 7-jewel Elgin pocket watch, light cream-coloured dial, Arabic numerals, arrow and a number on outside back ; a ladies’ gold Bulova Swiss wristlet watch with round dial about § in. in diameter, black Arabic numerals, convex glass, gold expanding wrist-band in design of curled leaf, value £35 ; a ladies’ gold well-worn wristlet watch, round dial with “ Swiss Made ” thereon, about f in. in diameter, black Arabic numerals, small gold swivel attached to each side for strap, “ K ” and a date on inside back, brown leather wrist-strap; a blue Eversharp fountain-pen with mottled-blue head a black Waterman fountain-pen; a mottled-grey Waterman fountain-pen with 14 ct. gold nib, clip missing ; a gold dress ring, set with a cameo about | in. wide in representation of woman’s head in claw setting ; a red Post Office Savings-bank money-box containing £1 in threepenny and sixpenny pieces; £1 9s. Gd. in money; two pairs of grey sports trousers, size 8 with 38 in. waist, two side pockets and hip pocket, tunnel-loops for belt; a pair of gentlemen’s patent leather shoes, size 8 ; two pairs of interlock short underpants with singlet to match, size 8 ; forty King Edward VII cigars; fifteen two-gallon petrol coupons as issued to members of the Armed Forces; a tobacco tin containing 3s. in coppers ; five tins of State Express, two tins of Capstan, and two packets of Tasman cigarettes; total value, £67 ss. 6d. Portion identifiable. The recovered articles were subsequently found in a lavatory at the High School.

Auckland. —loth or 11th September last, the property of Doctor SYDNEY ALLEN STRUTHERS, Crown Hill, Milford, four pressed-stecl wheels for 1938 model Chevrolet motor-car, painted green, five stud holes, fitted with 650 by 16 Firestone recapped tires, serial Nos. 162383, 174173 A.H., 160552, and L.Y. 03126 respectively, and tubes; total value, £4B. Identifiable. On 10th September last, complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from above address and when recovered the following day in Rosela Road, Brown’s Bay, the property described had been stolen.

Auckland. 2sth or 26th September last, from the dwelling of MAUDE KELLY, 399 Manukau Road, Epsom, a gold (probably 18 ct.) old engagement ring, set with a diamond, about £ carat, surrounded by a cluster of about seven smaller diamonds in platinum claw setting, value, £IOO ; a ladies’ gold (probably 18 ct.) old wedding ring ; and a small metal ring-case, about 2 in. by 2 in. by 3 in., square lid with two hinges, patent fastener; total value, £lO2 ss. Identifiable.

Auckland. —17th October last, from the Star Billiardroom, 2 Newton Road, the property of CHARLES JOSEPH » DE LUCCA, 2 Somerset Road, Mount Roskill, a set of snooker balls comprising fifteen red, six coloured, and one white, Titan make, black spot on yellow ball; value, £3O. Identifiable.

Auckland. —Between the 18th and 21st August last, from the garage of SYDNEY THORNE GEORGE,.276 Remuera Road, a pair of field-glasses, German make, covered with black leather; a brown leather attache case, 15 in. by 12 in. by 5 in., white metal fasteners at each end, lined with satin, brown leather handle ; a soda-water bottle of “ Sparklet ” type, wire around outside, white metal siphon-top ; a quart bottle of Old Parr whisky ; four small whisky glasses ; a 3 oz. medicine glass ; a Morris motor-car pump, painted black, two £ in. holes in iron base-plate ; and a two-gallon oblong petrol tin, painted black, white metal screw-top; total value, £ll 4s. Mostly identifiable.

Auckland. —Between the 25th and 27th August last, the shop of BARTON NISBET GILLESPIE, watchmaker, Pacific Buildings, Wellesley Street East, was broken into and the 'following stolen : An Enfield striking clock in dark oak case with round top, 13 in. long and 8 in. high, convex glass with chromium band around it, black hands and Arabic numerals; a blue Halex bedroom clock, 6 in. by 3 in., oblong dial with chromium band around it and “ Foreign ” on lower portion, “ Halex British Make ” on bottom of case, black Arabic numerals; a Westelox alarm clock, 6 in. by 6 in., round dial with gold-coloured circle around it, white dial, black hands and numerals ; and a black Westelox War-alarm clock ; total value, £l6 ss. Identifiable except “ War-alarm ” clock. The offence may have been committed by Clarence Reginald Philip Burt, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 810, and Photographs, 1935, page 63, who was arrested for a similar offence. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. 29th August last, from clothing in a paint shop at 444 New North Road, the property of SEFTON RICHARDS, 232 Jervois Road, Herne Bay, a brown leather wallet, 6 in. by 4 in., folding type, six compartments, “ S.R.” and “ 29/8/43 ” in gold-coloured letters and numerals on it; an R.S.A. membership card, issued by Auckland branch, complainant’s name and regimental No. 29578, thereon; a War Pension certificate bearing complainant’s name and signed “ H. Digby Smith, Secretary of War Pensions ” ; £ls in money ; a Government Life Insurance receipt for £3 12s. issued to S. Richards, and dated 27/7/45; and a cheque for 155., No. P. 32783, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Symonds Street, in favour of “ cash,” by S. Williams, Steamwell Sterilisers ; total value, £l7. Portion identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Mail (name unknown), age about forty, height about sft. 11 in., good build, fresh complexion, round features; wearing a blue-grey suit, who was seen leaving the shop about the time the offence was committed.

Auckland. — llth September last, from the Chief Post Office, the property of ALFRED TOM THOMAS, 19 Normans Road, Christchurch, a heavy black pliable-leather American folio bag, 15 in. by 12 in. by 10 in., similar to Gladstone bag, strap-fastener in centre, eight compartments, containing a large quantity of medical literature and business correspondence ; value, £l2. Identifiable. It is considered that this bag is the only one of its type in the Dominion.

(N.Z.), LTD., 201 Hobson Street, a brown leatherette suitcase, about 28 in. by 18 in. by 8 in., lock at each end and catch in centre, corners reinforced ; 151 yd. of blue handkerchief material, four red thin stripes near border, check design ; 157 J yd. of grey handkerchief material with check design and four red thin stripes near border; 153 yd. of winecoloured handkerchief material with check design and four blue thin stripes near grey check border (above material is comprised of six lengths, each 36 in. wide and approximately 75 yd. long, and the pattern permits the cutting of two handkerchiefs to the width); total value, £69 11s. 3d. Newmarket. —13th ultimo, from a cloakroom underneath the grandstand, Alexandra Park, the property of JAMES ROGER, 10 Sunnyvale Road, Greenlane, a gentlemen’s fawn double-breasted gaberdine raincoat with belt, bone buttons, repaired on right side at front, “ J. Rogers ” in ink on neck ; and a woollen scarf of various colours, 36 in. long with fringe at each end ; total value, £8 7s. 6d. Identifiable. .

Te Aroha. Between the 30th June last and 19th July, from the dwelling of CHARLES GORDON HARVEY, Mikkelsen’s Road, Waihou, a -22 calibre Joosten single-shot rifle, bolt and barrel No. 230192, model No. 29D, made by H. N. C. Joosten, Hamburg ; value, £3. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Stanley Leigh, age nineteen, height about 5 ft. 4£ in., farm hand and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, well spoken, talkative; usually neatly dressed in a dark or grey suit (no hat). He was employed by complainant and expressed a liking for the rifle, but he left -this employment and obtained similar work with a nearby farmer until 24th July, when he disappeared. When located he is to be interviewed. ' . -

Frankton Junction. — 10th September last, from the platform on the railway-station, the property of ARTHUR EARLE WILLIAMS, 9 Huia Street, Marton, a brown leather week-end bag, 18 in. by 9 in. by 9 in., flap on top with buckle fastener, leather handles ; a pair of gentlemen’s brown suede and black leather slippers, boot type, size 7 ; a pair of ladies’ red and blue felt slippers, size 4 ; a partly knitted pullover on steel-lined needles, size 12 ; a 9 ct. gold locket with leaf design on front, “ D.G.P.” and “ To Dawn, Xmas, 1940, from Earle ” on it, containing photograph of airman, chain attached ; a steel dessert knife with white handle; a red art-silk scarf; and an oval hand mirror with green and black celluloid back; total value, £ll 18s. Te Awamutu. —7th September last, the property of KATHLEEN KUPE, Mountain Road, Te Kawa, a Columbia portable gramophone in black composition case about 24 in. by 16 in. by 12 in., containing eleven records; value, £6. Identifiable. On above date complainant left the gramophone on the footpath in Alexandra Street, while she made a purchase in a shop, and shortly after the following-described Man (name unknown), was seen to pick it up and carry it away. Description: Age about eighteen, height about 5 ft. 8 in., Maori, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes.

Gbeymoutii. —4th ultimo, the property of Pilot Officer BRUCE WILLIAM DENTON, 7 Lydia Street, a gentlemen’s stainless-steel oblong Cortebert wristlet watch with round luminous dial, Arabic numerals, No. 126537, repair No. 4898 G. 8., “ B. W. Denton, 1941 ” on back, wrist band comprising small squares of tortoise-shell joined with copper pins ; value, £5. Identifiable. Complainant lost the watch between the town and his home.
