Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —About the sth June last, from a cabin on the ship “ Themistocles ” between Liverpool (England) and Auckland, the property of RITA ROTH WELL, care of Mrs. J. R. Franklin, 99 Brook Street, Nelson, a speckled fawn and brown snake-skin wallet, about 7 in. by 5 in., containing an English identification-card in red leather case; two American ten-dollar bills; three English £1 notes ; and eight travellers’ cheques, each for £5, drawn on Westminster Bank, Ltd., London, in complainant’s name. Nos. 494286-293 ; total value, about £54 13s. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. — 12th June last, from the dwelling of EILEEN MARION DORMER, 15 Rossmay Terrace, Sandringham, a black folding autograph Kodak camera, about 5 in. by 2£in. by 14 in. ; ( a gentlemen’s chromium-plated octagonshaped 15-jewel Swiss Embassy wristlet watch, non-magnetic and shockproof, round brown dial with white band around it and around seconds dial, luminous Arabic numerals, brown leather wrist-strap ; a gold bar-brooch with a half-sovereign on centre, clasp at back ; and £4 2s. in money ; total value, £l3 19s. 6d. Camera and watch identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown) age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 5 in., probably native of New Zealand, good build, dark complexion, curly black hair, believed to be a Maori; wearing a black or navyblue overcoat, white scarf, and brown gloves. He was seen leaving complainant’s dwelling about the time the offence was committed.

Auckland. 2Bth June last, from a motor-car in Queen Street, the property of ALFRED ERROL BARCHAM CHEAL, View Road, Titirangi, a brown leather kit-bag, about 16 in. long, brown cotton lining with two small pockets, one of which is torn ; a plywood table-tennis bat with rubber face, wooden handle bound with adhesive plaster ; a grey canvas table-tennis-bat cover with zip-fastener ; a duplicate report book with pages numbered, 12 in. by 8 in. by £ in. ; five tabletennis balls ; some used postage stamps in American booklet and packet form ; a bottle of Halivol, 100 cc. size ; an 8 oz. bottle of camphorated oil; and the following Auckland Public Library books, entitled “ Oswald’s Pet Dragon,” by C. Click, “ Redskin Morning,” by J. Grant, “ Ameliaranne Keeps School,” by C. Heward, “ Spyrocket,” by W. Taylor, “Range Justice,” by Riley, and The Chinese Shawl,” by Wentworth ; total value, £7 Os. Bd. Identifiable except Halivol and oil. Arthur Bernard Brocas, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 332, and Photographs, 1944, page 57, who committed similar offences, has been interviewed regarding this offence, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. — 16th ultimo, from clothing outside a shower cubicle in the Y.M.C.A., Wellesley Street East, the property of Leading Aircraftman ANTHONY CHIZMAR, 15 Liilington Road, Remuera, a gentlemen’s chromium round Omega wristlet watch, silver-coloured dial, black Arabic numerals, hour-hand broken, seconds-hand, grey leather wrist-strap with chromium buckle ; value, £6. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), height about 5 ft. 10 in., naval rating, medium build, fair hair ; wearing uniform of R.N.Z.N. rating, who was using another cubicle at the time.

Auckland. —On the 16th or 17th ultimo, the shop of SYDNEY HERBERT WINTER, Endean’s Buildings, Queen Street, was broken into and the following stolen : £42 in silver (£35 of which was in light-coloured canvas bank bags) ; and £225 in money, made up of £5, £l, and 10s. notes ; two cartons of Capstan cigarettes ; and a carton of Players cigarettes ; total value, £272 12s. 6d. Auckland.— On the 27th or 28th ultimo, the shop of ALLAN WRIGHT, 131 Parnell Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A seven-valve mantel model dual-wave half-moon-shaped Ekco radio. Auckland. 22nd June last, from the dwelling of DOROTHY HUME, 24 Silver Road, Epsom, a ladies’ handbag ; a key ; and a powder-puff (all recovered) ; a ladies’ 15ct. gold octagon-shaped Moeris 15-jewel wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, No. 2265798, repair No. T. 135 scratched on inside case, round gold-coloured dial, light-coloured hands, Arabic numerals, gold expanding wrist-band f in. wide with slip-in fastener and safety-chain ; a black plastic cigarette-case, about 3 in. by 2£ in., set with imitation diamonds in shape of three V’s, sliding catch, holds five cigarettes; and £1 in money; total value, £l6 ss. Identifiable except money. The hand-bag, &c., were recovered by complainant on 12th ultimo from a section nearby.

McConnochie ” on one side ; a. black bakelite Sixtus photo-electric exposure meter, 2 in. by 1£ in. by 1 in., convex glass on dial at one end, small lid ; a R.N.Z.A.F. uniform with sergeant’s chevrons and wings on breast; two blue shirts, size 5, Air Force issue, and seven collars to match ; two white interlock athletic singlets, O.S. size ; a pair of interlock short underpants ; three pairs of blue socks ; a photograph album with leather cover, representation of a tui thereon ; a black metal two-cell electric torch ; a set of gentlemen’s pyjamas with dark and light green stripes, O.S. size ; a Brasso cleaning outfit; a boot-polishing outfit; a cream-coloured Schick safety-injector razor with light markings, and two packets each containing twenty blades in a blue case with red lining ; a shaving-brush with blue handle ; a tube of Palmolive shaving cream ; a tube of tooth paste ; a tube of Lanoline in bakelite case; a hairbrush, 4 in. by 2| in., walnut-coloured wooden back, brown bristles; a mirror, 4\ in. by 3 in. with metal edges and wooden back ; and sundry papers; total value, £75 9s. (id. Mostly identifiable. The camera was recovered from a pawnbroker, Wellesley Street, with whom it had been pledged on 13th ultimo for £4 by L. Mitchell (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 7 in., good build, dark complexion and hair; neatly dressed in a dark suit, and when located he is to be interviewed regarding the offence.

Auckland. — On the 18th ultimo, the shop of EMANUEL ROBINSON, pawnbroker, 352 Queen Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A silver-plated B flat clarionet, about 18 in. long, high pitch, black wooden mouthpiece ; and a brown wooden E flat clarionet with silver-plated keys, about 18 in long, high pitch, black wooden mouthpiece; total value, £2O.

Gladstone bag, “ C.E.S.” in gold-coloured letters near lock, tan lining with small pocket on one side ; a gold brooch in shape of ribbon bow, 1£ in. across, gold tiki 1 f in. long suspended from it by small ring, safety-chain attached; a standard size two-cell focusing torch, plated case, small head ; a metal and chromium-plated yacht, 5 in. long, mast about 9 in. high with flag on top, two sails ; a piece of goldmounted greenstone, 2| in. long, gold ring at one end; a gentlemen’s blue cotton handkerchief, black and white edge in fancy scroll design ; a manicure set of six pieces in pink case, about 8 in. by 6 in., hinged lid with mirror in it, two clip-fasteners, white velvet lining; a mottled brown and grey oval manicure case containing seven pieces, triangular design of lighter shade on and mirror inside lid, dark-grey velvet lining ; a mother-of-pearl brooch in shape of oak-leaf, “ N.Z.” in gold in centre, gold-plaited cord around lower portion, scratches on back, gold heart-shaped medal with the Lord’s Prayer engraved on it attached, safety-pin fastener; a gold locket about size of a shilling, N.Z. Onward badge on front, and “ To Babette from Maurice, Xmas, 1942 ” engraved

Identifiable.

Ngongotaha. — Between the sth and 9th June last, from a cottage near the Lake, the property of FREDERICK GEORGE CLARKE, 20 Abbotsford Street, Hamilton, a Rangette; a toaster; two fishing-rods; and four reels (all recovered); a six-valve all-wave mantel model Courtenay radio ; a 10 ft. Tonga fly rod ; a 10 ft. Tisdall fly rod ; two flat electric bicycle lamps ; a light-blue felt hat with plaited black band, size 6| in. ; and two bottles of Te Kauwhata wine; total value, £92. Radio identifiable. The offence may have been committed —(1) Len Fisher (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., probably farmer and horse-breaker, medium build, fair complexion and hair ; wearing sports clothes (no hat). (2) Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, fair complexion and hair, full features ; wearing sports clothes, and felt hat. They sold the recovered property to a second-hand dealer, and a sports depot at Auckland, the first-described man signing a receipt “ Len Fisher.”

Rotorua. —About the 29th May last, from Brent’s Private Hotel, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), two reels of 16 mm. film, which are parts one and two of a series, entitled “Information Please,” No. 14/C 1884, each about 400 ft. long, depicting nude women and scenes at night clubs ; total value, £6. Identifiable.

Rotorua. 29th ultimo, from the vestibule in the Presbyterian Church, the property of LEO GEORGE JACKSON, 12 Malfroy Road, a gentlemen’s single-breasted light-grey Raglan overcoat of herringbone pattern, half-lined with dark-grey material, two side pockets with a hole in right one, fit tall man ; and a pair of tan leather gloves, size about 10£ in., “ 68468” and “ L.G.J.” on inside; total value, £l3 10s. The offence may have been committed by John Joseph Walsh, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 329, and Photographs, 1941, page 8; probably wearing sports clothes; smart appearance; well spoken; fond of drink.
