Auckland. Between the 17th and 25th May last, from the dwelling of-HYLDA MONTGOMERIE ROXBOROUGH, 27 Cliff Road, St. Heliers Bay, a platinum engagement ring, set with a solitaire diamond in box setting with three diamond chips on each side, value £75 ; and twelve small silver teaspoons, and a pair of silver sugar-tongs in black imitation leather case with two gilded clip fasteners, lined with red velvet and red satin ; total value, £BS. Identifiable.

Auckland.— STEVEN GEORGE NICHOLSON’S dwelling broken into (see Police Gazette, 1945, page 583) : The follow-ing-described property was also stolen : A brown metal round thermos flask, quart size, aluminium top; a black leather pocket wallet, 4£in. by 3£ in., envelope type ; and 31b. of butter; total value, 14s. fid. Auckland.— Between the 26th May last and 21st June, from' a warehouse at Camp Bunn, Tamaki, the property of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA GOVERNMENT, 72 lb. of tobacco (recovered); and a quantity of La Corona Sublime cigars and Herbert lareytcn and Pall Mall cigarettes ; total value, about £l2O. Not identifiable. On 27th June last the recovered tobacco was found in possession of William Nesketh, who has been charged with receiving it. He stated that he purchased it from a serviceman of whom no description is available.

Auckland. —Ist June last, from the Metropole Cabaret, Queen Street, the property of NORA KATHLEEN SUCTCH, 145 Grafton Road, a black patent-leather handbag, envelope type, 12 in. by 10 in., press-button fastener; an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with two diamonds, each in raised platinum box-claw setting; £1 12s. in money; a pair of yellow glass clip-on ear-rings; three white handkerchiefs ; a bunch of Yale keys; and a pink and black celluloid powdercompact, &c. ; total value, £34 10s. fid. Auckland.— lsth or 16th June last, from a hut in Mangere Crossing Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a 1939-40 model Imperial portable typewriter, Imperial-The Good Companion on front, serial No. 81810, in case with slightly rough surface and two rounded edges ; value, £ls. Auckland. —16th or 17th June last, from a room at the Red Shield Hostel, Lome Street, the property of Aircraftman JOHN EWART DANIEL, Whenuapai, a" 35 mm. CertoDollina folding camera, about Sin. by 4 in. by 1 in., black leatherette covering, automatic exposure-meter at top, f. 2-9 lens with “ Steinheil Cassar ” on it, two dents in back plate, chromium on one spool-winder slightly rusty, containing a film some exposures of which depict scenes of Rotorua ; and a dark-brown leatherette ever-ready camera-case, 84 in x 41 x ]£ in., front of ease moulded for lens, round piece out of back for view-finder, spring-button fastener, 36 in. leather strap attached ; total value, £3l. Auckland. —On the sth or 6th ultimo, the shop of ATLANTA RADIOS, 33 High Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A four-valve broadcast radio, A.C./D.C. model, cream-coloured metal cabinet 9 in. by 6 in. by 3 in., two bakelite control-knobs in front, line resister about 3 in. by 2 in. by 2 in. in black metal case ; three 8 in. radio loudspeakers, one Rola make and the others Fisher; and two polished walnut-coloured-veneer radio cabinets, 21 in. by 15 in. by 10 in., fawn cloth in speaker orifice, H.M.V. transfers on front; total value, £23 10s. Radio identifiable.

Auckland;, - the Bth June last and 2nd ultimo, from a motor-car in Andrew’s Garage, Symonds Street, the property of JOHN FAIRFAX McCLURE, 9 Esplanade Road, Mount Eden, a black Agfa folding camera, a,bout 7 in. by 2 in., takes 120 film, f. 6-3 lens, shutter speed l/25th to 25th second ; value, £lB. Auckland. —llth June last, from the dwelling of RANGI FANEVA, 31 Day Street, Newton," a suitcase (recovered); a white double sheet, 70 in. by 100 in. ; six shirts with collars attached, size 5, one white and five with stripes; a pair of air-force-blue sports trousers with stripes, size 5, tunnel loops for belt; a pair of light-grey sports trousers with white stripes, size 5; a pair of navy-blue sports trousers, size 5; a pair of cream-coloured trousers, size 5; a white towel with black ends, about 72 in. long ; a white towel with black markings (all marked “R. Faneva ”); a white double sheet with green floral pattern sewn on it ; a white pillow-case with floral pattern and “ Ino ”on it; a pillow-case with “ True love from Ino ”on it; a pair of gentlemen’s light-tan shoes, size 8, pointed toes ; and £9 in money; total value, £39 13s. 6d. Identifiable except money. The suitcase was recovered from a second-hand dealer in the city, to whom it and the shoes had been sold on 12th June last by Michael Stephen Walker, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 243, and when located he is to be interviewed regarding the offence. Auckland.— 22nd June last, from a dwelling at 126 Parnell Road, the property of FRANK MORRIS SIMMS, Tarakino, Rotorua, a ladies’ 15 ct. gold wristlet watch, round white dial with gold-coloured line around it, Arabic numerals, gold-coloured hands, gold expanding wrist-band about j in. wide with gold fine safety-chain; value, £l6 16s. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Horace Basil Wiggins, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 91, and Photographs, 1931, page 42, who was one of two men who transferred complainant’s furniture and effects from Parnell Road to the railway-station on above date. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. 6th ultimo, from a motor-truck in Albert Street, the property of HOWARD KEITH BROWN, Meyers Street, a Megger tester, used for testing electrical installations, red bakelite case, 6 in. by 4 in. by 2 in. with “ Patent applied for, Megger, Registered trade-mark, made in England, 500 volts ” on it, graduation scale reading from zero to infinity with intermediate numerals, folding crank-handle, contained in black metal case with crackle finish and padded inside ; value, £lO 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland.— llth ultimo, from the shop of MARINO GLAVAS, 66 Victoria Street West, a Gilbert milk-shake machine, about 15 in. high with cream-coloured cast iron base, nickel-plated 230 volt electric motor at top, 36 in. of flex and three-pin plug attached ; value, £lO 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland.— 3rd instant, from a room in an apartmenthouse at 4 West Street, Newton, the property of FLORENCE REES, an 18 ct. gold ring, set with about eight diamonds in platinum half-hoop carved setting a 15 ct. gold ring, set with a large emerald with two diamonds on each side of it in claw setting ; a ladies’ 18 ct. gold round wristlet watch, about size of florin, white dial, black hour-hand, minutehand missing, gold expanding link wrist- band with gold small chain attached to clip ; a cut-glass oval bowl, about 3 in. in diameter and about 4 in. high, silver-plated lid with embossed design thereon ; a chromium-plated round bowl, about 6 in. in diameter and about 4 in. high, chromiumplated lid ; a greenstone tiki, about 3 in. by 2 in., hole for chain broken; a double string of graduated pearls, 12 in. long, silver square clip-fastener; an amber bead necklace, about 14 in. long, each bead joined with silver ring, amber bead screw-fastener; a necklace of synthetic red stones, about 14 in. long; a sapphire of diamond shape, about ] in. wide, set in gold; and a quantity of tobacco and cigarettes; total value, £IOO 14s. Identifiable except tobacco and cigarettes.

Tuakau. Between the Ist June, 1944, and 31st May last, from a farm at Whangarata, the property of HERBERT BREWSTER, a -22 calibre Bayard single-shot rifle, bolt action, No. 33122 ; value, £l. Identifiable.

Te Aroha. —Between the 6th and 20th April last, from the farm of FREDERICK GEORGE HANCOCK, Paeroa Road, Iluakaka, a Prime electric fence unit, 18 in. by 12 in. by 6 in. in pressed steel case, painted red, clip on top for Neon light, between battery indicator dial and fence dial, broken, three fence plug-ins indicating condition of soil, rheostat control Nos. 1-6 on one side ; value, £2l. Identifiable.

Matamata. About 15th June last, from a motor-car in the town, the property of CHARLES ALFRED CAPAMAGIAN, Peria Road, a Kodak folding camera, takes 620 film, Compur shutter, f. 3-5 lens, speed to 1/500 second, “ Capamagian, D.C.R., 2. N.Z.E.F.” engraved on metal portion, purchased ip Egypt; value, £lB 18s. Identifiable.

Rotorua. —l6th June last, the property of WILLIAM ARCHIBALD, Columbus Radio Shop, Tutanekai Street, two Morris 8 motor-car wire wheels, fitted with a Firestone retread tire, serial No. 4224662; a Dunlop retread tire, serial No. 139426, and tubes ; total value, £3O. Identifiable. On above date complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from outside the Lake House Hotel, and when recovered the following day near the Post Master Baths the wheels and tires had been stolen.

Te Awamutu. —On the 16th or 17th June last, the dwelling of OSCAR JOHN LEO ZANDERS, Bond’s Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A Kodak folding camera, takes 116 A film, in brown leather case with shoulder-strap ; a Mauthe chiming clock in walnut case, about 14 in. high.

Arabic numerals, gold-coloured hands: a gentlemen’s chromium-plated Swiss wristlet watch, Arabic numerals, brown leather wrist-strap ; a black Conway Stewart fountainpen with gold clip, nib, and band, burn-mark on it; a quantity of -300 calibre ammunition; about three gallons of petrol; 3s. 6d. in money ; a gentlemen’s open-face pocket watch (not in working order); a gentlemen’s silver hunting watch; and a leather suitcase, about 24 in. by 18 in., acidburn on one side.; total value, £47 7s. 6d. Mostly identifiable.

Palmerston North. — 4th ultimo, from a clothes-line at 12 Chaytor Street, the property of MAY MURRAY, a fulllength grey Siberian squirrel fur coat, faded to whitish colour where skins joined, fit woman of stout build, medium collar, two mottled fawn bone buttons, light-coloured figured satin lining with pink spray design at bottom of right side at front, tape fastener, may have “ Blandford, Furrier, Palmerston North ”on tag ; value, £75. Identifiable.

Masterton. —l4th ultimo, from'the dwelling of WILLI lAN PORTER, 32 Cole Street, a gentlemen’s gold-coloured square shockproof Benrus wristlet watch with stainless-steel back, grey dial, gold-coloured Arabic numerals, black hands, leather wrist-strap; value, £5. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Kenneth Sullivan, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 409, and Photographs, 1939, page 85, who visited complainant’s dwelling about the time the offence was committed. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Lower Hutt. —2nd ultimo, from a room in the Central Hotel, the property of BENJAMIN JAMES TAIT, a gentlemen’s dark-blue double-breasted suit with faint red pin stripes, size 4, black lining in coat and white lining with stripes in sleeves, belt loops on trousers ; a pair of blue and white braces; a gentlemen’s navy-blue double-breasted heavy velour overcoat, may be Berwick brand, half-lined with black silk, fit man about 5 ft. 7 in.; and a black leather wallet about 6 in. by 4 in., folding type, zip fastener on inside compartment, “ 8.J.T.” in gilt-coloured letters on it, containing an arms registration certificate, No. 149209 total value, £l6 18s. Identifiable.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —2lst or 22nd June last, from a motor-car in Patterson Street, the property of the Rev. Father ARTHUR JAMES McRAE, Catholic Presbytery, Kilbimie, a six-valve mantel model dual wave R.C.A. Victor radio, 86 T2 or 86 T 3 model, walnut veneer cabinet, about 24 in. by 14 in., push-button tuning, two control knobs, 6 in. speaker ; value, £25. Identifiable.

Wellington South. —Between the 21st December last and 21st March, from the workshop of BILLIARD’S LTD., 22a Emmett Street, Newtown, eight vise screws, about 19 in. long, 1£ in. in diameter, £ in. square thread ; a folding scale rule, graduated from | in. to 3 in., “0” to “ 180” degrees on centre portion ; a ratchet screwdriver, mauve-grey handle stamped “ P.S.” and “ W.X.” carved in it, about 71 in. long; a screwdriver, about 15£ in. long, unpolished beech handle with “ P.S.” on it, 1 in. chromium-plated ferrule ; a § in. chisel for mortice work, “ P.S.” on handle ; a G. cramp, about 5 in. long, rough casting, thumb-screw repaired with brass rivet; aG. cramp, painted pink, about 6 in. long; a boxwood spokeshave, about 2 in. blade, round brass plate fitted to mouth; a boxwood Spokeshave, slighter smaller than that described; a 10 in. old metal square, marked in inches on each side ; a steel Sergeant square, 24 in. by 18 in.; and a fluting divider, about 42 in. long with movable stock and hand-screw, value £4O ; total value, £47 19s. 6d. Identifiable except one spokeshave. Claude Linton Bradley, carpenter, who was found in possession of two cramps similar to those described above, has been interviewed by the Ohakune police regarding this offence, but no evidence resulted.

Westport.— The NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department’s) Starting-engine stolen (see Police Gazette, 1945, page 488): The number “ 4C9065, P.W.D., 1356 is the number of the tractor-engine and winch, not that of the starting-engine, and it is to be deleted from all copies of the Police Gazette.

Christchurch. On the 11th or 12th June last, the countinghouse of DIGBY’S COMMERCIAL SCHOOL, 69 Worcester Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A ladies’ gold ring, set with five large diamonds in straight claw setting, value £75; a travelling clock in lightblue leather folding case ; a ladies’ gold old hunting watch ; and a£l note ; total value, £BO. Identifiable except money.

'Christchurch. Between the 2nd and 20th June last, the dwelling of ELIZABETH GOUGH, 39 Clifton Terrace, Sumner, was broken into and the following stolen : A dark veneer cabinet model broadcast Consolidated radio, 36 in. by 18 in. by 9 in., small dial, two speakers at bottom ; value, £65. Identifiable.

Christchurch. — or 25th June last, from the dwelling of OLIVE LA MASCOTTE WILSON, 274 Manchester Street, a gold engagement ring, set with a cluster of nine diamonds and small diamond on each side of cluster; value, £2O. Identifiable.
