Hamilton— 2oth ultimo, on warrant for forgery, H. G. Carr J wearing an overcoat with flecks, grey sports trousers, and working boots. On above date he uttered a cheque for £4, No. FI 11359, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, in favour of H. G. Carr (on which the endorsement “ H. G. Carr” had been forged) to Samuel Spence, outfitter, Commerce Street, Frankton Junction, in payment of two pairs of socks, value 11s., and received £3 9s. change. The cheque was one of three (all recovered) which were in a darktan shopping-bag, 18 in. by 12 in. by 3 in., with zip-fastener and two handles, the p-ioperty of Hughie James Carr, stolen from a motor-car at Frankton Junction earlier the same day. Wanganui.— lßth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Alfred Sydney Kerr, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 220, and Photographs, 1937, page 3 ; wearing a lightcoloured suit, grey overcoat, and grey felt hat, and was carrying a fawn suit-case; deaf. Offender, who assumed the name C. L. Burgess, obtained a cheque for £5, drawn on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Wanganui, in favour of C. L. Burgess, from Howard Jackson Dalzell, plumber, Dublin Street, by falsely representing that he was the owner of four hundred and ten sheets of roofing-iron which were in crates at Linton Street, Huntorville, ready for transport to Wanganui. He obtained a two-piece Donegal tweed suit, size 4, value £7 75., from Arthur May Richardson, manager of London Mantle Co., 187 King Edward Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £22, No. W 95344, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, North Dunedin, by R. Cockhart in favour of “ self.” He also ordered a suit to be made. Offender obtained the cheque-form from Wholesale Picture Framers, 258 George Street.
