Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by William Frederick Orr, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 868, and Photographs, 1937, page 63. He shared the room with complainant, but he left on 9th ultimo. Auckland. llth or 12th ultimo, from the dwelling of MAUDE FITZGERALD GRAHAM, 15 Cotter Avenue, Remuera, a ladies’ dress ring (recovered); a gentlemen’s chromium-plated round Tasman wristlet watch, white dial, luminous Roman numerals, piece of metal attached to one side ; a brooch set with diamantes; and a ladies’ gold round wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, gold-coloured dial and numerals, back case worn, black ribbon wrist-band; total value, £32. Identifiable. On 12th ultimo the ring was recovered near a house in Ohinerau Street where a similar offence was committed.

Auckland.— l4th ultimo, from the dwelling of BEATRICE McAVEN, 60 Great South Road, Remuera, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold round Rotherhams half-hunting watch about size of a florin, enamel Roman numerals on case and dial, “ B.McA.” on back, safety-pin fastener at top, value, £45 ; a gold chased cross about 2 in. long with link at top, gilt fine chain about 18 in. long attached ; an 18 ct. gold bar-brooch, about 2 in. long, set with a cameo in centre with “ Kia Ora ” engraved on bar ; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold oblong Swiss wristlet watch, white dial, black Arabic numerals, “ B.E.McA., 4/10/41 ”on back, black silk cord wrist-band; and a 9 ct. gold chased cross, about 1 j in. long, gilt chain about 18 in. long attached ; total value, £67 10s. Auckland. l4th ultimo, from the dwelling of ISABEL SAVAGE, 5 Lillington Road, Remuera, a pin- brooch, set with a gold nugget about size of a florin ; a gold oval brooch about 2 in. long studded with small blue stones ; a gold bangle of chain type, about 1 in. wide, snap-fastener ; and a gold old engagement ring, amethyst inset with two pearls on each side of it in straight setting ; total value, £3O. Identifiable.

Auckland. —14th ultimo, from the dwelling of ANNIE HART, 7 Lillington Road, Remuera, a gold pendant of triangular shape, about 1| in. wide, set with small emeralds in shape of stars with series of scrolls on swivels, gold line mesh chain about 18 in. long with push-in clip, value £3O; and a gold old dress ring, set with three small diamonds and two small rubies in straight coronet setting ; total value, £4O. Identifiable. Walter Hunter, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 943, and Photographs, 1927, page 42, who has been charged with similar offences has been interviewed regarding the offences mentioned in this and the five preceding paragraphs, but no evidence resulted. Me % % 6 fitter Auckland.— On the Bth or* 9th September last, the countinghouse of ALLEN AND VIBEItT, LTD., 164 Grafton Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A goldcoloured satin double bedspread with puckered design, two oval pillows to match; a roll (161 yd.) of green mohair, 50 in. wide; a roll (161 yd.) of wine-coloured mohair, 50 in. wide; a roll (14£yd.) of green uncut moquette with small orange-coloured floral pattern, 50 in. wide a roll (30 yd.) of green tapestry with small fawn pattern, 48 in. wide ; a roll (30 yd.) of fawn tapestry with small green pattern, 48 in. wide; and a roll (30 yd.) of fawn tapestry, 48 in. wide; total value, £271 15s. Identifiable.

Pukekohe. — Between the 17th and 24th ultimo, from a room at McGovern’s Boardinghouse, King Street, the property of ARTHUR JAMES DAWSON, a gold ring set with a solitaire diamond in gold box setting, stone held in place with four platinum pins, herringbone design around setting ; value, £25. Identifiable.

Hamilton. or 25th October last, from the shop of EDWARD REGINALD SEYMOUR, second-hand dealer, 353 Victoria Street, a gentlemen’s white metal wristlet watch with milled edge, grey dial, black Arabic numerals, red seconds-hand, grey leather wrist-strap with deep scratch in it, chromium buckle ; a gentlemen’s chromium square Swiss wristlet watch, seconds-hand, brown leather wrist-strap; and a drawing set in blue plush-lined rosewood case 8 in. square, containing a set of instruments with a boxwood and two ivory rulers ; total value, £l3. Grey leather wriststrap identifiable.

Hamilton. 2sth ultimo, from the dwelling of ROBERT LESLIE MORGAN, 9 Wellington Street, a ladies’ gold (probably 9 ct.) Swiss wristlet watch of hexagon or octagon shape, about size of a shilling, gold-coloured dial with “ C. G. Morgan, Timaru ” on it, mainspring and glass broken, gold expanding bracelet with clip-fastener attached ; and £6 10s. in money ; total value, £l3 10s. Watch identifiable.

New Plymouth. —Between the Ist and 3rd September last, from the armoury at Bell Block Airport, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), a gentlemen’s nickel-plated double-cased pocket .watch, white dial, black Roman numerals, gold hands, seconds-hand, “ A.M.” over “ G. 5.,” “ 6E/50 ” over “ G. & S. Co., Ltd,” and probably “N0."4374/40” or “4376/40’’engraved on back, small leather strap attached ; value, £3 15s. 7d. Identifiable.

Wanganui.— property of the. NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a -303 calibre Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle, barrel No. 533 D, body No. 4141, bolt No. 10821, butt No. 10073/Cl4 ; value, £4. Identifiable. On 16th May, 1941, it was impressed for the use of Home Guardsmen, but it cannot now be found.,

Wanganui. Between the 20th September last and 4th ultimo, from the dwelling of ALISON ANDERSON, Braeburn Hotel, Taylorville, a ladies’ platinum narrow ring, set with a solitaire diamond about ] in. in diameter, in coronet setting, “ Jock, 1914, Alison,” on inside band, value, £6O ; a ladies’ silver ring, set with a round amber-coloured stone about 2 in. in diameter in silver setting ; and a bottle of Cyclax face lotion ; total value, £66 13s. 6d. Rings identifiable.

Marton. —23rd September last, from a carriage on the Wellington-Auckland express, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), a silver Buescher trumpet, No. 279651, in black worn fabric case about 18 in. long ; value, £3O. Identifiable.

Marton. 3lst ultimo, from the dwelling of MARGARET WILSON, French Street, Marton Junction, about £4 10s. in money; a Post Office money-box of book shape with “M. Stewart ” scratched on it; an 18 ct. gold ring with a half-sovereign which is dated “1900” soldered on it; and a bar of chocolate ; total value, £7 Os. 7d. Identifiable except money.

Palmerston North.— l6th ultimo, from a room in the Midland Hotel, the property of LEONARD STURMEY, Devon Street, New Plymouth, a green composition suit-case, 28 in. by 20 in', by 9 in., cane bands, leather corners and handle, containing a slate-grey three-piece suit with 1 in. wide grey stripes and thin white stripes, size 5, grey lining, “ D.1.C., Wanganui on tag ; a slate-grey shirt with blue stripes. Summit make, size 4, with Fuseply collar, double cuffs, “5.50 ” on neck band ; a set of blue pyjamas with lighter-blue stripes, size 5; a pair of light-tan shoes, size 7 ; a maroon-coloured tie with red stripes, Parisian make ; - a pair of grey fancy socks ; a cream-coloured Indian cloth dust-coat, with four detachable bone buttons, belt attached; a set of ladies’ multi-coloured pyjamas, S.W. size ; some slate- blue Pyramid handkerchiefs ; and three packets of Players cigarettes ; and some matches ; total value, £27 17s. Portion identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 11 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, broad shoulders; dressed in a dark Donegal tweed sports coat and grey sports trousers (no hat) ; wearing horn-rimmed glasses. He was seen near complainant’s room about the time the offence was committed.

Wellington. —l4th or 15th September last, from a room in the Hotel Selwyn, Oriental Parade, the property of SHEILA MAY ROBERTSON, an R.C.A. radio, No. 36651, model 28, in brown stained wooden cabinet, about 12 in. by 10 in. by 8 in., with rounded top ; a ladies’ fawn camelhair coat, belt attached, five buttons in front, lined with fawn silk, red stain on right sleeve near elbow ; and a silver brooch with filigree work in design of two slippers, pin at back ; total value, £l9 19s. Identifiable.

Greymouth. —Between the 11th and 13th instant, the shop of THOMAS HEINIGER, jeweller, 18 Tainui Street, was broken into and the following stolen : Twenty-four 9 ct. gold heart-shaped pendants, set with stones ; fourteen 9 ct. gold crosses, some engraved, and some set with stones ; fifteen engraved wedding rings, some 18 ct. gold and some 18 ct. gold and platinum ; a 9 ct. gold bracelet of chain type with tiki ; four gentlemen’s watch-chain pendants in 9 ct. gold swivel mountings, one with large yellow stone, two with small blue stones, and one flat similar to amethyst ; als ct. gold medium curb watch-chain ; thirty 9 ct. gold lockets of various shapes, some with 9 ct. gold pin fobs ; eighteen 9 ct. gold locket fobs of various designs. Wristlet watches Two gentlemen’s stainless-steel waterproof and shockproof Cortebert, No. 4754 L. on back cases ; a gentlemen’s stainlesssteel oblong Cortebcrt ; a gentlemen’s stainless-steel 15-jewel Roamer; two ladies’ 15-jewel Regent ; and a ladies’ stainlesssteel Datum ; total value, £3OB Bs. 6d. Christchurch. —On the 9th August last, the dwelling of CHARLES AYLMER RATTRAY, 15 Cranmer Square, was broken into and the following stolen : A Telechron electric clock in brown-stained wooden case, black hands and Arabic numerals, flex attached ; a Remington Rand electric-razor with white ebonite handle ; a Kodak Junior camera, series 111, f. 4.5 lens, takes 620 film, in light-brown leather case; seven golf balls ; a pair of light-tan shoes, about size 10, made by Pannel and Co. ; a light-grey hat-box with silk lining; a "bracelet comprised of pieces of malachite joined with silver links, silver fastener ; a gold embossed brooch, set with a large flat piece of malachite ; a necklace comprised of malachite beads interspaced with three crystal beads on silver chain ; . a silver chain necklace from which are suspended twelve round amethysts ; an amethyst of heart shape ; a pair of gold ear-rings in design of three petals and stem, filigree work on them ; a pair of ear-rings comprised of two silver bars studded with pearls from which are suspended two coral drops ; a child’s necklet comprised of round smooth pink pieces of coral with coral and gold fastener ; a gold pinbrooch studded with pearls in shape of “ B ” ; a silver butterfly brooch with opal wings ; a brooch in representation of a fly with opal body, rubies for eyes, and gold wings and legs ; a silver bracelet with filigree work thereon)’purchased in the Middle East; a silver heart-shaped scarf-pin ; a Spanish dollar ; a gold and silver brooch with four circles of imitation diamonds on one end; a gold necklet to which is attached a number of match sticks with ebony heads ; and a silver ring to which is attached some coral miniature musical instruments, &c. ; total value, £lO6 16s. 6d.
