PROPERTY STOLEN

Auckland. — 2nd ultimo, from a room in the Carlton Boardinghouse, Hobson Street, the property of EDMOND RANDALL KING, a navy-blue suit with pin stripes, size 3, may have “ JafFe ” on tag at neck ; a pair of black serge trousers, size 3, repaired on inside of left leg and on right hip; a faded black Italian cloth shirt, size 3; and a white cotton sleeveless singlet, size 3 ; total value, £ls 15s. Identifiable. This offence may have been committed by Frank Hasscti, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, medium complexion, dark hair; wearing a brown suit and felt hat; well spoken, smart appearance. He shared a room with complainant, but on above date he disappeared after which it was discovered that the property described had been stolen.

Auckland. 24th or 25th February last, from a room in the Victoria Hotel, the property of BRUCE' MARSDEN WATERHOUSE, R.N.Z.N., Devonport, a light-brown leather attache-case, 18 in. by 12 in., “ B. M. Waterhouse ” in black letters on inside lid a Rolls razor in silver-coloured case; a brown leather wallet with “ B. M. Waterhouse ” in goldcoloured letters across one corner; a black leather writingcase containing photographs and writing-paper, “ 8.M.W.” across one corner ; a black Onoto fountain-pen with gold nib ; two boot-brushes ; a tin of nugget; and a nickelplated nail file ; total value, £6. Identifiable.

Auckland. —lst ultimo, from outside the Princes Theatre, Dominion Road, the property of PHILLIP NAPIER HUNTER, 260 Khyber Pass Road, a 1938 model 3£ h.p. o.h.v. Velocette motor-cycle, painted black, engine No. M.S.S. 3,968, registration-plate No. 19,530, 1943-44 license No. 213,739, pillion seat, dent in left side of petrol-tank ; value, £IOO. Auckland. —2oth ultimo, from the dwelling of HILDA MYRTLE ALLEN and another, flat 3, 10 St. George’s Bay Road, Parnell, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold round Baume wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, gold dial and hands, Arabic numerals, worn as fob watch and fastens to dress with an 18 ct. gold chased bow; a ladies’ 9 ct. gold small oval Peak wristlet watch, gold hands and Arabic numerals, small chip out of glass, black ribbon wrist-band with gold fastener ; a gold-filled Eversharp pencil with green lead ; a silver engine-turned cigarette-case, about 4 in. square, “ W.J.A.” and a date in 1932 on it; a navy-blue serge suit, about size 4, fob pocket in trousers; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold open-face pocket watch, gold hands, Roman numerals, inscription part of which reads “ From the Boer War ” on inside back case; a Match-point tennis racquet, red leather grip, in iron press ; a pair of French opera glasses with centre focussing-screw, covered with grey leather in grey imitation leather case with dome-fastener; two Summit shirts with blue stripes, size 3 ; a nigger-brown imitation leather suit-case, about 18 in. by 12 in. by 6 in.; and a pair of gentlemen’s spectacles with rolled-gold frame and sides ; total value, £49 7s. Identifiable.

Palmerston North. —24th January last, from a room in the Awapuni Home, the property of RUTH MELVILLE BEGG, nurse, a gold engagement ring, set with a diamond in square raised platinum setting, two small cracks in edge near setting; value, £lB. Identifiable.,

Levin. 24th or 25th February last, from a shed at the R.N.Z.A.F. Station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), three tractor lamps, painted air-force-blue, front of each about 6 in. in diameter, “No. 924210/19 ” and “ Opaque Glass ” on lenses which are of prism type and slightly convex ; and six gallons of petrol; total value, £8 7s. 9d. Lamps identifiable.

Wellington. — On the 26th February last, the dwelling of ROSA PONIMONI, 80 Apu Crescent, was broken into and the following stolen : £3 12s. in money ; a ladies’ 14 ct. gold wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, set with six mends around bezel, purchased in Germany, gold expanding wnsf^~a~sprmg"of which is broken : an' 18 ct,. gold flexible bracelet 'of crossed network design, 1 j in. wide and j in. thick, with hinge, chain and heart-shaped lock attached ; a gentlemen’s 14 ct. gold wedding ring, with “ M.P.” on it and “ 1912 ” inside band ; two gold old rings, each set with a diamond in claw setting total value, £6B 2s. Wellington. the 26th and 28th February last, from a room in the Midland Hotel, the property of LieutenantColonel PATRICK JOSEPH lIALTIGAN, U.S.A. Marine Corps, a -38 calibre six-chambered Colt revolver (loaded), black bakelite grip, contained in light tan leather holster with brass button for flap ; value, £l2 3s. 4d. Identifiable.

Wellington. l3th November last, from a bar in the City Hotel, the property of WILLIAM MITCHELL, 101 Ghuznee Street, a gentlemen’s navy-blue overcoat of Raglan style, fit man of 5 ft. 7 in., half-lined with black material, button holes repaired, may have “W. Mitchell underneath lining at back; value, £5. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a man known as “ Hoppy,” age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 6 in., dark-brown hair going bald ; wearing a grey overcoat and light hat; quietly spoken. He held the coat while complainant went to the lavatory, but when the latter returned he had disappeared. He may be identical with John Cape! Hopkins, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 227, who is also known as “ Hoppy.” 07->t . Christchurch. —Between the 31st January last and Ist ultimo, from the dwelling of JANE BOAG, 309 Riccarton Road, a gold cameo brooch, oval with white figure on palepink background, opening at back for photograph, gold chain attached ; a gold bar brooch with small diagonal bar set with diamonds ; a silver V-shaped brooch set with Scotch stones, crown at top ; a gold oak-leaf brooch with hand clasping pink stone, engraving of bangle on wrist which is set with opals and rubies ; a pair of ear-rings to match ; a gold embossed bangle with small gold safety-chain ; a gold bangle with three bars, each set with stones ; an 18 ct. gold ring, set with diamonds and sapphires ; a gold oval ring set with lemon-coloured Scotch stones ; a gold ring, broken at top, set with Scotch stones, one of which is missing a wedding ring ; a flat keeper ring with “ P.J.8.” on inside ; a 9 ct. gold ring, set with rubies and other stones, broken near setting ; three gold studs ; a silver tie-pin, set with Scotch stones ; a tie-pin with white bone horse-shoe and whip ; and a rug, plain on one side and blue and fawn checks on other side ; total value, £72 10s. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Bth February last, from the dwelling of LILIAN ELEANOR HIBBARD, 101 Woodham Road, three white double blankets with two double mauve stripes between two wide pink stripes at each end ; a Petone or Kaiapoi rug, brown on one side and light-fawn checks on other side ; a sports coat with black and white checks. H.B. make, small pocket with flap on right side; and an air-force-blue Kelsam suit with white and fine-blue stripes ; total value, £23 10s. Identifiable.

O amaru.26th February last, from the Scottish Hall, Tyne Street, the property of ALAN FRANCIS EASTON, Fernbrook, a gentlemen’s double-breasted fawn velour Minster overcoat with lining of darker shade, seam repaired at back near tail; a dark-green Crean Hall hat, size 7, white silk lining, “A. Easton ” in ink on inside band ; and a red and grey tartan scarf ; total value, £8 10s. Identifiable.

Dunedin. —Ist or 2nd February last, from a motor-truck outside 34 Norfolk Street, St. Clair, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department), an International pressed-steel wheel, painted black with chromium hub-cap, fitted with 650 xl6 Goodyear tire, serial No. N. 517786, and tube; value, £22 14s. 6d. Identifiable.

Dunedin. —7th February last, from a motor-truck in a yard at 203 Macandrew Road, South Dunedin, the property of JOHN BERNARD BENNIE, a gentlemen’s silver or nickel-plated oblong wristlet watch with slightly convex sides, round dial, luminous Arabic numerals, “To Jack from Eileen, 1943 ” on back, black leather wrist-strap; value, £9.
