Auckland. Between the Ist November last and 23rd January, from the shop of IVY ROPE, 1224 Great North Road, Point Chevalier, a gold engagement ring, set with three diamonds (one imitation) in claw setting, about in. wide, value, £3O; an ivory bracelet, comprised of 1 in. squares, Egyptian characters carved in it, each of seven sections jointed with four ivory chains, pin-fastener ; and a gold round brooch of three-leaf design, each set with a pearl in centre, about £- in. in diameter, one pearl missing ; total value, £39 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland.— December last, from the dwelling of ELIZABETH MARY BOADLE, 3 Randolph street, Newton, a gentlemen’s gold fully jewelled pocket watch in gunmetal case, black numerals, gold hands, value £2O ; and £59 in money, made up of a £lO note, £5 and £1 notes. Watch identifiable. The offence may have been committed by William George Ashton, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., thin build, sallow complexion, wavy fair hair, blue eyes, one upper tooth broken, scar across top of left hand; well-dressed in a navy-blue suit with* stripes ; well spoken. Auckland. 23rd December last, from the dwelling of ISAAC WOOTTON, 26 Franklin Road, Ponsonby, a suitcoat and trousers (recovered) ; a nickel-plated electric hairdryer similar to that used by hairdressers, three-way switch, 6 ft. flex with bakelite plug attached; a cream-coloured tussore-silk nightdress with short sleeves, lace around neck ; a gentlemen’s pink woollen heavyweight singlet with short sleeves ; a faded-blue shirt with thin stripes, 15 in. neck ; a pair of horn-rimmed spectacles, one side longer than the other, in blue case; a pair of nickel small scissors; a driver’s license in complainant’s name, No. 12093, issued by Auckland City Council for current year; a Wright Stephenson’s sheepdirectory notebook and a pair of blue braces; total value, £3O Is. Mostly identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Herbert Heka, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 64, and Photographs, 1939, page 42. The suit-coat and trousers were recovered in his possession when he stated that he purchased them from a second-hand dealer, but he disappeared before his statement could be verified. Velocette motor-cycle, painted black, engine No. M.A.E. 6376, registration-plate No. 5,595, 1943-44 license No. 11,605; value, £BO. Identifiable.

Wanganui. —On the sth or 6th December last, the Tawhero School, Totara Street, the property of the WANGANUI EDUCATION' BOARD, was broken into and the following stolen : A seven-valve wave Gulbranscn cabinet radio, about 24 in. by 18 in., serial No. 126023, 127425, or 157384, royalty No. 2249, 2534, or 2527 ; an H.M.V. portable gramophone with records ; a gentlemen’s Big Ben pocket watch ; a pocket-knife, fitted with one blade, tin and bottleopener ;■? a lock ; a combination lock ; and a chisel; total value, £2l 18s. 6d. Wanganui. —Between the 29th and 31st January last, from a shed near State houses in the course of construction at Wanganui East, the property of KNUCKEY AND DICKSON, LTD., a model B electric De Soutter drill with pistol grip, serial No. 10845 ; value, £l4 4s. 9d. Identifiable.

Palmerston North. — On the 16th or 17th ultimo, the countinghouso of BORACURE LTD., 193 Rangitikei Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A cheque for £lO 10s., No. 162198, drawn oil the Baflk of Australasia, Palmerston North, in favour of R. D. Haselden, stamped “ Boracure, Ltd.,” and “ signed “J. Crowe ’’ and “P. W. Hoffiens,” and endorsed by the payee; nine £5 notes ; six £1 notes ; a manila envelope with “£3 13s. for Trojan tyre ” written on it; and a black tin cash-box with gold-coloured lines ; total value, £62. Wellington. —On the 28th or 29th January last, the countinghouse of the AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS, at the rear of the Hotel Cecil Buildings, was broken into and the following stolen : A cheque for £6, No. 8.0. 6887, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales on account of American Red Cross, and signed “ Rose Blaha ” ; a cheque for £B, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales on account of American Red Cross, and signed “ Rose Blaha ” ; £B3 9s. Bd. in New Zealand and American money ; and two canvas bags, about 12 in. by 6 in., one has “ Bank of N.Z.” on it; total value, £97 9s. Bd. Cheques identifiable.

Kaikoura. —l2th January last, from a hut at Black Miller, the property of ARCHIBALD PATRICK ADAIR, Hapuku, a -303 calibre Sparkbrook magazine rifle, No. 20657 over 06, barrel shortened; value, £5. A woman (now deceased) was seen leaving the hut where the rifle was kept, and was later seen carrying the rifle, but she did not have it in her possession when she left Picton for Wellington on 14th January last.
