PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. 24th September last, from the dwelling of JOHN EDWARD TAYLOR, 19 Mauranui Avenue, Remuera, a silver round open-face stop watch, white dial, black numerals and hands, second-hand in small circle with numerals 5 to 30, split-second hand in outer circle with numerals 5 to 60, stud in end of winder and at side; a gold oval locket, about 1 in. long, scene depicting Lily of Valley enamelled on outside, chain attached; a gold oval locket, about 1 in. long, set with an Australian pearl in box setting in centre, chain attached; an 18 ct. gold dress ring, about fin. wide, set with white opal in centre; and a black tin money-box with gold-coloured facings, 8 in. by 5 in. by 4 in.; total value, £ls ss. Identifiable.

Auckland.— On the 25th September last, the dwelling of RALPH HIPKINS, 58 Gillies Avenue, was broken into and the following stolen : A gold wedding ring with “ R. to M.” inside band; a gentlemen’s gold wedding ring, “ R.H. 13/11/16” on inside band; a gold narrow ring set with three small diamonds in diagonal claw setting ; a gold round brooch, set alternately with a small pearl and small diamond around edge, pin across centre; a ladies’ gold small oblong wristlet watch, small repair mark in silver on edge ; a ladies’ nickel-plated round wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, black numerals, brown leather strap; a gold ring, originally set with three sapphires, but centre one is now missing; and £2 15s. in money ; total value, £2O 10s. Portion identifiable.

Auckland. the 22nd and 26th October last, from a room at 24 Crummer Road, the property of FREDERICK CHARLES WHITE, 32 Norfolk Street, Ponsonby, a bronze Mons Star medal, “ F. C. White ” and “ S.A.E.C.” on back ; a 1914-19 silver round King’s medal, King’s head on one side and horse on other, “ F. C. White ” and “S.A.E.C.” on back; a bronze round Victory medal, “ The Great War 1914-19 ” and some Dutch words on front, “ S.A.E.C.” on back ; and a bronze King’s Empire Veteran’s medal, star shape, “ K.E.V.” on front, “F. C. White and “ S.A.E.C.” on back total value, £1 2s. 6d. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Reginald Hubbard, age about forty, height 6 ft. 1 in., seaman and wharf labourer, native of Canada, good build, dark complexion and hair, two upper front teeth missing, has small dark moustache; dressed in a brown sports coat, grey sports trousers, and tan shoes. He shared a room with complainant at 24 Crummer Road, but he disappeared suddenly.

Auckland. —2Bth or 29th October last, from a locker, Kean’s Building, Queen Street, the property of HAROLD ALLEN SLY, 37 Cobden Street, Newton, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold Waltham pocket watch, open face, “ H.A.S.” on back case, Essex motor badge on small chain attached; value, £l2 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —23rd or 24th October last, the property of WILLIAM GEORGE ROBINSON, second-class aviation metal-smith, American Navy, a gentlemen’s gold 17-jewel Hamilton wristlet watch with silver-coloured dial, gold hands and Arabic numerals, gold expanding wrist-band, which is broken ; and seventy dollars ; total value, £3O Bs. 4d. Watch identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Margaret Peri, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 27, and Photographs, 1941, page 50, who visited complainant in his room at Wellesley House where she had an opportunity to steal the watch from his clothing. Later at suspect’s house complainant handed his money to Peri for the latter to take care of, but when he subsequently requested that it be returned to him he discovered that about seventy dollars were missing. Peri has been interviewed, but she denied the offence.

Auckland. Between the 2nd and sth ultimo, from a flat at 2 Rota Street, Parnell, the property of BETTY EVANS, a pearl necklace, about 72 in. long, each pearl about £ in. in diameter; a 9 ct. gold chain, comprised of small bars about 12 in. long, hook fastener; and a silver bracelet, about 8 in. long and 1 in. wide, Eastern filigree work on it consisting of about eight rows of four small silver hearts; total value, £2l ss. Identifiable.

Auckland. —6th ultimo, from the dwelling of EDITH COPSEY, 12 Omahu Road, Remuera, a ladies’ plain gold round wristlet watch, probably Carna make, white dial, gold hands, black numerals, gold expanding wristlet attached ; a black Conway Stewart fountain-pen, gold-coloured clip and facings, No. 236; and a gentlemen’s white elastic belt with buckle; total value, £7 19s. sd. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, dark hair; wearing a raincoat (no hat); speaks well. At 8.15p.m. when the complainant returned home after being away for about half an hour she found the above-described man on the back steps.

Huntly. On the 29th or 30th ultimo, the shop of ADAM FREDERICK CHARLES GALL, Rangiriri, was broken into and the following, stolen: A large quantity of tobacco, cigarettes, cigarette-papers, and matches of various brands; forty-seven pairs of silk stockings of various makes and shades, sizes 94 in. and 10 in.; ten pairs of girl’s black Lyall gym hose, Korma brand, sizes 7 in. and 9 in.; thirty pairs of gentlemen’s black cashmere socks, size 10J in.; ten pairs of gentlemen’s navy-blue cashmere socks, size 10 in.; eight gentlemen’s felt hats, fawn, brown, and grey, Defiance and Wellesley makes; twenty gentlemen’s cream-coloured interlock vests, O.S. size, some have short sleeves; fourteen Standard cotton shirts of various colours and stripes, sizes 4, 5, and 6; seven fawn Rosnit silk sports shirts, M size; three white Terrytowelling sports shirts with lace-up fronts; twelve Tassie ties of various shades; six Klipper ties of various shades; twelve white linen Diplomat wing collars, size 14J in. by 1J in.; six brown and grey twist working shirts, sizes 5 and 6; eight gentlemen’s Roslyn blazers, two maroon, three green, and three blue, sizes 4,5, and 6; five Roslyn sports coats, sizes 4,5, and 6, grey, brown, and blue ; four boy’s tweed overcoats with grey and blue checks ; three pairs of grey Roslyn sports trousers, size 6 ; a pair of serge Roslyn trousers with green stripes, size 7; two sets of gentlemen’s Wellesley summer-weight pyjamas, one set with dark-blue stripes and the other with light-blue stripes ; a pair of blue locknit bloomers and a locknit singlet, O.S. size; two sets of ladies’ pink silk pyjamas, O.S. size; a set of ladies’ green silk pyjamas, W. size; six children’s Atlas cotton vests; four Christmas compacts, each containing a cake of soap and a small bottle of scent; six pairs of gentlemen’s black leather shoes, Roachester and Rotary brands, sizes 7 and 8; a pair of gentlemen’s Newco tan leather shoes, size 6; nine pairs of Glendermid working boots, some tan with hobnails in them and some black; three pairs of gentlemen’s County Essex white canvas tennis shoes (no heels); two pairs of gentlemen’s brown leather sandals with rubber soles and heels, sizes 8 and 9 ; twelve Protex Nylon tooth-brushes with coloured handles; a mottled blue-grey fountain-pen; £1 15s. in money ; and two wage-books in which were nine £1 wage-stamps and a ss. wage-stamp; total value, £166 14s. sd. Identification doubtful except articles with price-ticket on which complainant may have his price mark. A large sack with a tar-stain and “ Northern Roller Milling Company ” in red or blue stencil on it was stolen from the storeroom. The offender or offenders are believed to have been in possession of a motor-car in which they removed the stolen property.

Hamilton. —29th September last, from the Commercial Hotel, the property of MARY RICHARDS, 191 Clyde Street, Island Bay, Wellington, a ladies’ platinum oblong wristlet watch, studded with diamonds, spring broken, “ Plat ” and “ H. 5 5.42 HM.” on inside, black double cord wrist-band ; value, £75. Identifiable.

Hamilton. —l4th ultimo, from the dwelling of ROBERT ARTHUR KEMP, 9 Piako Road, a gentlemen’s 14 ct. gold hunting Waltham watch, “ R.A.K.” on front case, “ Won by R. A. Kemp, 1925, T. & G. Life Society ” on inside; al4 ct. gold curb watch-chain; a gold and a silver medal, each about the size of a halfpenny, each has “ T.G.” in centre and “The Loyalty Medal” inscribed on them'; a ladies’ 22 ct. gold round Rolex wristlet watch, hexagon-shaped dial, 15 jewels, probably No. 94414, gold expanding wristlet; a ladies’ gold band ring with four diamonds in a square setting; a 9 ct. gold round locket, about the size of a halfpenny, plain centre, contains photograph of an airman, fine gold chain attached; several keys, one Yale, No. 4425 ; £3 10s. in cash ; and a sovereign; total value, £59 16s. 6d. Portion identifiable.

Rotorua. 4th or sth ultimo, from a motor-car outside the Grand Hotel, the property of MAVIS LOUISE CASA, nurse, Public Hospital, a brown and fawn fur coat of herringbone pattern, 6 in. collar, brown lining, “I. M. Jacobs, furrier, New Plymouth,” on tab, hook-fastener at neck and waist; value, £25. Identifiable.

Palmerston North.— 7th ultimo, from Broadway Avenue, the property of GORDON STRACHAN NOBEL, soldier, Ashhurst Camp, a 1932 model fawn Austin seven saloon motor-car, chassis No. 141744, engine No. M. 142247, registration No. 4,807, Firestone tires on front wheels, Goodrich tires on rear wheels, Dunlop tire on spare wheel; value, £SO. Identifiable.

Upper Hutt. — loth October last, from the dwelling of WILLIAM ARTHUR STEWART, 70 Martin Street, eight £1 notes; an Electrolux cleaner, covered with mottled maroon material, No. 0/170/592, model 24; a six-valve dual-wave Colombus radio, serial No. 13840, model 66, about 30 in. by 10 in. by 10 in., trade mark (ship over “ Colombus ”) has been removed; a Ewebank carpetsweeper, black case; a Viking ball-bearing lawn-mower, 12 in. blade ; two Koze hot-water bags, one dark-red, the other blue with bird design on it; a ladies’ white locknit undervest; a length of blue linen dress material, 108 in. by 36 in.; and a black oval bicycle lamp of battery type ; total value, £66. On the 3rd or 4th instant, the dwelling of DANIEL GEORGE ERASER, 44 Wainui Road, Lower Hutt, was broken into and the following stolen: Forty-one cases of whisky of various brands, quart bottles; a case of Dewar’s whisky, pint bottles; a case of Bell’s whisky, pint bottles; a case each of Prunier brandy, cherry brandy, and Gilby’s gin (quart bottles); all cases marked either “ D.F.,” “ G.N.,” or “ J.L.8.” over “ P ” (the boxes and labels on the bottles may be discoloured through being in a damp cellar) ; total value, £367 10s. Identifiable by markings on cases only.

Wellington.— 24th October last, from a flat at 216 Cuba Street, the property of AMY LOUISA HISLOP, a darkbrown and fawn full-length Musquash fur coat, originally two buttons, but one now missing, slanting pockets, “ Universal Fur Co., Wellington ” on tag at neck, value £56 145.; and a dark-brown three-quarter length South American skunk fur coat with dark-brown lining, one button, flaw in stitching on top of right shoulder, “ Universal Fur Co., Wellington” on tag at neck; total value, £124 14s. Wellington. —26th or 27th October last, from a cloakroom in the stewards’ lounge, Trentham Racecourse, the property of the Right Hon. JOSEPH GORDON COATES, a black vulcanite Zeiss monocular, about 5 in. long, 6 magnifications, fitted with adjusting focus screw, shoulder-strap attached; and a white loose-fitting Burberry raincoat with two side pockets, small cigarette-burn on front at bottom; total value, £lB. Identifiable.

Wellington. 27th October last, from the cart-dock of MATHESON AND WILKINSON, LTD., 20 Victoria Street, a scrim bale, marked “ 263 ” and “ Matheson and Wilkinson, Wellington,” containing three rolls of grey tweed, about 58 in. wide, of the following lengths : 59 yd., with No. 1911 on tag at end; 6lf yd., with No. 1893 on tag at end; and 62Jyd., with No. 1887 on tag at end; total value, £lO5. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. —27th October last, from the lift of the Wellington East Post-office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), a five-valve broadcast Pacemaker radio, mantel model, royalty No. 17859, chassis No. 32057 ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —On the 25th October last, the shop of REGENT MERCERS, 826 Colombo Street, was broken into, and the following stolen: Four pairs of grey flannel sports trousers, Stylex or Jacs brands sizes 4 and 5 ; eight pairs of woollen swimming shorts, black, blue, and green; six blue and green tweed sports coats, Kaiapoi or Stylex brands, sizes 3 and 4, “ Regent Mercers ” on tag at neck; forty-eight blue Pyramid handkerchiefs; ten white and navy-blue cotton sleeveless singlets; and a pair of khaki shorts, size 5, double strap-fastener at waist; total value, £46 Bs. 2d. Identifiable except handkerchiefs.
