Auckland. -18th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of paying £45 9s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife and child, Douglas Aubrey Sadgrove, age about thirty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman, native of Australia, strong build, ruddy complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, large nose, left hand injured and may have portion of one finger missing; wears a black suit; frequents hotels and billiard-rooms. He may be released on payment of £lO.

Auckland. —lsth instant, for attempted robbery of about £IO,OOO in money, the property of the New Zealand Government (Railways Department), Two Mem (names unknown) (1) Age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. in., probably, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion and

hair, blue eyes; wearing a raincoat and probably sports clothes (no hat). (2) Dark complexion and hair; wearing a dark suit, scarf concealing lower part of face (no hat). Each wearing sun-glasses. The money was being taken in a motor-car by an unarmed escort to the Railways Workshops at Otahuhu. When near the entrance to the workshops the driver had to slow down on account of the position of a motor-car, and No. 1 offender jumped on to the runningboard and told him to drive along Favona Road (this being away from the direction of the workshops), and he went about 100 yd. along that road and stopped. No. 2 offender followed in the car which had caused the obstruction and also stopped. He remained in the car holding a rifle, probably of -22 calibre. No. 1 offender took two wires from the spark plugs of the pay car and told the occupants that he wanted the money, and that his companion in the rear car was armed with a rifle, and would use it if necessary. He opened a door of the “ pay car ” and seized a hag containing money, but was prevented from taking it by one of the escort whom he struck several blows on an arm with a 12 in. Crescent spanner. He then hurried to the waiting car and the two offenders drove off at high speed. Description of motor-car: A bine V 8 five-seater sedan, probably 1936 model, bearing registration-plates No. 133,993, which were stolen on the night of the 14th-15th instant. No warrants.

Paeroa. —21st ultimo, on warrant for failing to report for service with the armed forces when notified so to do, John Hamilton Walker, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., farm hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, operation-scar on right side of abdomen. . / .' t

Petone. August last, on warrant for breaking and entering the shop of James William Krause, jeweller, 258 Jackson Street, and stealing jewellery (recovered), value £SB and £6 in money, Christopher John Anderson, also known as Christopher John Anderson Jervis, age sixteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, swarthy complexion, black hair, brown eyes, good teeth ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and navy-blue raincoat (no hat). On the 9th ultimo he failed to appear in answer to a summons on above charge, and it has since been ascertained that he disappeared from his home on the 4th ultimo.

Wellington. For forgery and theft, Man (name unknown), age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 8£ in., slight build, pale complexion, black hair, long thin face ; wearing working clothes and black shirt with open neck (no hat). About the 18th August last a Wellington Post Office Savingsbank book, No. 216454, and a ration-book, No. K. 50741, the property of John Brown, were stolen from his room in the King’s Private Hotel, Cambridge Terrace, and on 18th August last the man described above obtained £ll3 ss. from the Post-office Savings-bank by means of two forged withdrawal slips for £34 10s. and £7B 15s. respectively. No warrant.

Wellington. 2oth ultimo, for deserting from Anderson Park Camp, Arthur Harry Coll, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 9f in., clerk, native of America, medium build, ruddy complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, two scars on left side of neck, mole on left shoulder-blade. His photograph is filed. He is a member of the armed forces of the United States of America. A reward not exceeding fifty dollars will be paid for information leading to his early arrest. If located an urgent communication is to be forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (C.R. 42/117.) No warrant.

Wellington. 2nd July last, on warrant for entering upon the Tug Wharf without a permit, Henry Hedley Briant Maunder, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 820, and Photographs, 1937, page 35. . .

(2) Ivor Arthur Thomas Ward, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. in,., carpenter, good build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; each wearing institution clothing consisting of khaki drill coat, grey trousers, grey flannel shirt, and Army boots. Either one may have possession of an Army overcoat, dyed blue. They are members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Organization. When arrested they are to be returned to the camp.
