PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. —On the 11th October last, the dwelling of WILLIE WONG, Mclntyre Road, Mangere, was broken into and the following stolen : A wallet; an oil-fuel license; beads ; and sundry papers (recovered); an iron safe, about 36 in. by 30 in. by 36 in.; about £l5O in notes and silver; and about £23 in coppers; total value, £193. Safe identifiable. On the 13th October last the recovered property was found in Commissariat Road, Penrose. . , - , _ v /l f Y- z

Auckland. —-22nd April last, from the shop of JAMES LOKES, 446 b Manukau Road, 9s. 2d. in money ; and sundry papers (recovered); about £2O in money made up of £1 and 10s. notes, silver, and coppers ; and a National cash-register, about 18 in. long and 15 in. high, oak panelling and white porcelain base, double key-board; total value, about £7O. Cash-register identifiable. Complainant saw an old model motor-car or truck being driven away from the shop. The following day the recovered property was found in Market Road.

Auckland. ultimo, from a room in the Station Hotel, the property of Lieutenant-Colonel ALEXANDER CHARLES TANCOCK, a gold wristlet watch (recovered); a brown leather suit-case, about 15 in. by 12 in. by 4 in.; a gentlemen’s 18 ct. gold round half-hunting wristlet watch, “ Parker, London,” on dial, crest of cock rampant with cross in beak arid anchor underneath, one foot above “ Via Crusis, Via Lucis ” and “ A.C.T.” inscribed on back case, value £l2 ; an 18 ct. gold wristlet watch-band of curb fetter and fourovals type, catch at each end, value £2O; a silver old fob seal, set with a dark-red cornelian stone with crest as above over shield with cross and “ Via Crusis, Via Lucis ” underneath ; a 9 ct. gold match-box cover for small safety matches with crest referred to above on one side and “ A.C.T.” on other side, hinged lid at one end; a letter of.credit, No. 81/43, for £IOO, issued by the Bank of New Zealand, Suva, Fiji; thirty Thomas Cook and Sons’ travellers-cheques, each for £5, and signed by complainant; a cheque-book on the Bank of New Zealand, Suva, Fiji, containing about twenty forms; a cheque-book in rupees, issued by Thomas Cook and Sons, Bombay, British India, containing about six forms; and a large white cardboard file-cover, containing income-tax correspondence; a will; and sundry papers in complainant’s name; total value, £54. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Peter Davey (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., good build, fair complexion ; dressed in a reddish-brown suit coat with stripes, light raincoat of military type, and reddish-brown hat; well spoken; who on the 26th ultimo pledged the recovered watch with a pawnbroker for £l, giving his occupation as accountant and his address as 64 Queen Street, Onehunga. On the same day attempts were also made to cash one of the stolen cheques at the Bank of New Zealand, and one of the travellers-cheques at Thomas Cook and Sons, Auckland, 9'*%

Masterton. —Between the 13th and 15th ultimo, from Solway Military Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a -45 calibre sixchambered Adams revolver, No. 298; and cleaning-rod, value about £l. Identifiable.

Wellington. Between the 13th and 19th February last, from the luggage-room of the Hotel St. George, the property of GUY KYNASTON HANSARD, a brown fibre suit-case with “ G.K.H.” in black letters on. lid; a navy-blue vest; a light-blue sports shirt, size 5 ; a pair of black soft felt slippers, size 7 ; a pair of black patent leather dancing slippers; a set of gentlemen’s blue-grey silk pyjamas with stripes ; a blue thermos flask, pint size, cap missing ; a blue suit coat with stripes with complainant’s name thereon; a pair of horn-rimmed sun-glasses in grey case ; about five pairs of gentlemen’s woollen socks of various colours; a nickelplated two-cell electric torch ; a blue woollen swimming costume ; a gentlemen’s light oilskin golf jacket with zipfastener ; a pair of gentlemen’s woollen gloves, leather around tops; a leather toilet outfit containing shaving requisities and hair-brushes ; and some towels ; handkerchiefs ; and bottles of whisky; total value, £l9 os. 9d. Mostly indentifiable. Suspicion is attached to James William Burton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 135, and Photographs, 1938, page 14, who was employed at the hotel as a night porter, and he had an opportunity to commit the offence. ,

Wellington.— Between the 12th and 15th ultimo, from the dwelling of EDITH REINE DAVIS, 42 Friend Street, Karori, a ladies’ gold narrow ring, set with a large white solitaire diamond of 1J ct. in high crown platinum setting, platinum shoulders with diamond chip set in each, value £IOO ; and three red post-office savings-bank money-boxes of book type, containing £lO in money. Ring identifiable.

Wellington. 2oth ultimo, from a room in the Salvation Army Hostel, Vivian Street, the property of THOMAS JOHN MORGAN, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hexagon-shaped Swiss wristlet watch, gold-coloured luminous dial, Arabic numerals, No. B. 4085/10 scratched on inside, broken leather wrist-strap ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington.— -11th March last, from a room at 5 Jessie Street, the property of SYDNEY HAYNES, a five-valve broadcast Moderne radio, No. A. 498, dark-brown cabinet; value, £l2 19s. 6d. Identifiable. .

Kaiapoi. —loth or 11th April last, from a hut at Kairaki Beach, the property of MAUDE HELENA BANKS, 33 Mays Road, Papanui, Christchurch, a five-valve Cordery Wells Upright radio, No. 4083, model 120, in dark-brown wooden cabinet; a green porcelain three-pint Neeco electric jug ; two large and three small Hygenic stainless knives; three large Apis knives ; three small I.X.L. Firth stainless knives ; five dessert-spoons ; four cream-coloured cups; two cups with red floral edges ; and a china cream-jug ; total value, £ll. Mostly identifiable.

Tjlmaru.—On the 10th or 11th instant, the shop of ERNEST STANLEY GIBSON, tobacconist, 8 Church Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A large quantity of tobacco and cigarettes of various brands; about 10s. in money; a dark-brown composition attache-case, about 18 in. by 6 in. by 9 in. ; and a dark-grey suit coat with stripes, made by the C.F.C.A., Timaru, containing letters addressed to complainant, and a Gilbey’s gin advertisement diary ; total value, £22 Is. Coat and case identifiable.
