PROPERTY STOLEN.

Auckland. Glen Afton Post-office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, broken into (see Police Gazette, 1941, pages 590, 661, and 795, and 1942, page 174) : On the 11th December last a postal-note for 95., No. C. 93793, was cashed at the Bank of New Zealand, Te Aro, Wellington, by a person of whom no description is available.

Auckland. 29th or 30th December last, from the dwelling of DR. WILLIAM GEORGE BRIDGMAN,* 493 Remuera Road, a ladies’ gold (believed 18 ct.) ring, claw set with three diamonds in a row, value, £25 ; and a silver flat engineturned cigarette-case, diamond-shaped space on one side for initials, holds eight or nine cigarettes; value, £5 ss. Identifiable.

Auckland. — Ist January last, from the dwelling of JANE ANNE WIGHT, 17 Dromorne Road, Remuera, a gold openface key-wind stop watch, about one hundred years old, value £2O ; and a cheque-book on the Bank of New Zealand, Remuera, containing forms, Nos. W. 987061-072. Identifiable.

Auckland. sth January last, from a motor-car in Wellesley Street, the property of EDWARD CHARLES NEW, 21 Ashton Road, Mount Eden, a grey herringbone suit coat and vest with white stripes, “ Vance Vivian” on tag at neck ; two cheque-forms on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Upper Queen Street, Nos. B. 97799-800 ; and a cheque for £23 175., No. 6305, drawn on the Bank of Australasia by Abels Ltd., in favour of E. C. New, and signed E. Hobbs, manager, and D. Fairgray, secretary ; total value, £27 7s. 4d. Identifiable.

Auckland. — 26th December last, from the luggage-room in the Hotel Auckland, the property of LEO ROY CLEAVER, 54 Collingwood Street, Hamilton, a brown leather kit-bag about 18 in- by 10 in. by 10 in., lined with cloth, two pockets inside, containing a shaving-brush with white handle; a nickel-plated safety razor in green box ; a pair of gentlemen’s black leather slippers, size 6 ; a gentlemen’s salt-and-pepper coloured hand-knitted woollen cardigan, 36 in. chest; a white washing-silk shirt, 15 in. collar attached with slight burn on it; a boot-blacking outfit; a comb about 7 in. long ; a set of pyjamas with green and white stripes, iodinestain on right leg; and a clothes-brush with black bristles and light-red handle; total value, £5 9s. lid. Mostly identifiable.

Auckland. — On the 16th January last, the dwelling of GEORGE JAMES MONRO, 55 Great South Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A gentlemen’s 10 ct. gold hunting key-wind Waltham pocket watch, about fifty years old, chased on outside front case, Roman numerals, gold hands, “ Presented to George Bisset Monro from the Session Onehunga Presbyterian Church, 92,” “ 26,” and repair No. 11280 on inside case ; value, £6. Identifiable.

Auckland. —19th January last, from clothing in a room in the Royal Hotel, Victoria Street, the property of CYRIL BOWDEN, 131 Ponsonby Road, a gentlemen’s silver-plated open-face pocket watch, about 2 in. in diameter, black Arabic numerals ; value, £2. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Allah Clyde Johnson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 819, who committed a similar offence in the hotel referred to, and he has been interviewed regarding the theft of the watch, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —11th ultimo, from the shop of CHARLES DAVID WISE, 100 Hobson Street, a navy-blue worsted suit with white pin stripes about j in. apart, size 6, Locksley make, black silk lining but the vest has white lining with wide brown stripes about 1 in. apart, “ 781/6503/40. in pencil on trousers pocket; value, £4 9s. 6d. Identifiable.

Auckland. 2lst January last, from a motor-car in Lome Street, the property of JOHN HENRY METCALF, 13 Haig Avenue, Mount Roskill, a brown leather Gladstone bag with “ J.H.M.” and spot of cream-coloured paint on one side, containing a small hand-drill; a three-cell torch of Japanese make ; a pair of black metal side-cutting pliers ; an American Beauty electric soldering-iron, 12 in. long, wooden handle ; a book entitled “ A Man on My Back,” by Eric Linklater, with London Book Club, Wellesley Street, cover on it; a cheque-book on the Bank of New South Wales containing forms Nos. 391045 -60 ; a driver s license in complainant’s name; and a quantity of radio parts and sundry papers; total value, £5 12s. 6d. Identifiable.

, Auckland. —4th January last, from the dwelling of MAUDE MAY BORqyjWICK, 57. Market Road, Remuera, a ladies’ gold round Wristlet., watch, Arabic numerals, white dial, gold expanding band; a gentlemen’s silver open-face Rotherhams key-wind pocket watch, Roman numerals ; and £2 Bs. in cash ; total value, £l7 13s. Watches identifiable.

Auckland. —l7th ultimo, from the dwelling of LORNA WINIFRED KENRICK, 90 Symonds Street, a -25 calibre Mauser automatic pistol, No. 146303; value, £5. Identifiable.

. Matamata. — Ist or 2nd December last, from the armoury at the District High School, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a -303 calibre Lee-Enfield rifle, No. 3079, short barrel with -22 calibre tube inside it; value, £l2 10s. Identifiable.

Rotorua. 2sth January last, from clothing in a cubicle at the Blue Baths, the property of GRAHAM NGAHINA MATTHEWS, Post-office, Kaungaroa, Wanganui, a gentlemen’s gold dress ring, set with ruby a J in. in diameter in claw setting ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Hawera. sth December last, from an unoccupied cottage on the farm of ARTURO GIOVANNI ANDREOLI, Tawhiti, a single-barrelled hammer shot-gun of Harrington and Richardson make, No. A. 451274, model 1908 ; value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Trentham. — Between the 4th September, 1939, and 2nd ultimo, from a hut at Trentham Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), two pepper-box six-barrelled muzzle-loading revolvers; total value, £2. Not identifiable.

Trentham. About the 30th January last, from a hut in Trentham Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), two 9 mm. calibre self-loading German Luger pistols, Nos. 442 and 1900 respectively ; total value, £lO. Identifiable.

Wellington.— 9th January last, from the dwelling of RUBY HINGSTON, 58 Hawker Street, a ladies’ black leather handbag, about 10 in. long with black lining and dome-fastener, containing a gold ring, set with a cluster of nine diamonds with a diamond on each side of it; a gold oval-chased locket; a small red folding shoe-horn ; a small fruit-knife with brown wooden handle; and £5 10s. in money; total value, about £26 4s. 6d. Identifiable except money.

Wellington. —On the 2nd or 3rd January last, the shop of* BRICKMAN’S BEAUTY PARLOURS, LTD., 206 Lambton Quay, was broken into and the following stolen : A quantity of cosmetics ; a bottle of gin; a cheque-book containing about twenty forms on the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd., Wellington, Nos. E. 616465 to E. 616488; and ss. cash; total value, £3 10s. Cheque-forms identifiable. Between the 3rd and 13th of January last five of the stolen cheque-forms were, filled in for various amounts and cashed

at Wellington, Petone, Lower Hutt, and Palmerston North. Suspicion is attached to Gaven Donne, alias Andrew Reid, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942," page 140, and Phot'ographs, 1941, page 50, whose photograph has been identified as that of a man who cashed one of the cheques at the Grand Hotel, Palmerston North.
