Douglas, age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, medium complexion, dark hair and small moustache, round features ; dressed in a navy-blue serge coat, air-force blue trousers, dark-green felt hat, and black shoes; good appearance. On above date he called at the home of Francis Reginald Cahir, 15 Winter Street, and represented that he had complainant’s authority to obtain three cheque-forms which were on the Bank of New South Wales, Hamilton, Nos. 892351-53. He was given the forms, and was permitted to use complainant’s office in the house where he apparently filled in one or more of them. On the 26th ultimo he called at the shop of Cleary’s Ltd., mercers, Victoria Street, for the purpose of purchasing some clothes in payment of which he tendered one of the cheques, No. 892351, which had been filled in for £39 10s. in favour of C. Douglas, and to which the signature F. R. Cahir had' been forged. While the manager was making some inquiries regarding the cheque offender disappeared. On above date they called on James Munro, 132 Elies Road, and gave a demonstration of the cleaning of used motor oil by a powder and they represented that they were forming a syndicate for the purpose of promoting a company to carry on the work. They obtained £IOO from complainant by falsely representing that they had been sent by Walter Leonard Hughes, company-promotor, Christchurch, to advise complainant to invest at least £IOO in the venture. Blirrowes is now said to be living at Douglas Court, Baden Street, Coogee, Sydney (Australia), and Hammond is believed to have left Auckland recently for Sydney by flying boat.
